Howdy everyone, my name is Rio and I'm a big, tall boy in need of a new home. I loved my other home - I had lived there since I was a puppy, but due to circumstances beyond my control, I couldn't stay with my family anymore. I'm a young guy - about 22 months old and everyone says I'm the biggest Mal they've ever seen. I tip the scales at around 130.

Some say I still act like a puppy and need to learn some manners. I just like having fun! If you have treats I will "sit" and "down" for you. I like to play with other dogs, but can be kind of intimidating to some because of my size. I wouldn't mind having a large furry friend to hang out with in my new home. Since I like to play with my mouth and paws a lot, I would be best in a home without children younger than 12. I'm also a big chewer, so you'd better be prepared with lots of Extreme Kongs!

I ride well in cars and enjoy walks, but do find biting at the leash is a fun pastime. I could use a little more work on my leash etiquette. Are you ready for a Giant Mal in your life?

Note: Obedience training is a must for Rio to work on his manners and puppy like behavior.

About Moonsong Malamute Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

We're glad you stopped by to check out our Mallies in need of their "furever" homes! We are now a bonafide, federally recognized non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to assisting Alaskan Malamutes and their owners when in crisis throughout the Intermountain West. Please be aware that Moonsong Malamute Rescue (MMR) is not a shelter or humane society. We are affiliated with the Alaskan Malamute Assistance League (AMAL), which is the national rescue organization recognized by the Alaskan Malamute Club of America. As an affiliate to AMAL, MMR operates under AMAL's code of ethics.

We offer educational material about the Alaskan Malamute breed, can assist in resolving containment issues, are able to help an owner with appropriately re-homing their Malamute when necessary, and provide behavioral issues support in the form of referrals to trainers and other more experienced Malamute owners. These funds are also used to help care for Malamutes with adoptable personalities who have been pulled from shelters, or who have been seized by authorities after having been abandoned, neglected, or abused.
