REFERRAL - OWNER STATES: Cali is a 4 year old spayed female black Tri-colored Miniature Australian Shepherd with Blue eyes. She is 14" tall, weighs 27 lbs and has a docked tail. Cali is fairly shy at first but becomes very affectionate once she gets acquainted with a new person. She has demonstrated having anxieties around men and because of this her owners feel she needs to be adopted into a home with woman only. She is house trained but tends to have accidents (urinate) when approached by a man. Overall Cali is a very loving and easy dog despite her anxiety around men. Cali is a very calm dog with a lower drive who is also very loyal and stay's by her persons side. She likes to run around with her person outside and go on car rides. She knows sit, stay, down, and up. She walks better on a leash with a harness. She enjoys the company of other dogs, although is not hyperactive with them, but prefers to be independent. Cali is spayed, tested negative for heart worms in July and has been kept current on heart worm prevention. Her vaccinations (DAPPVL, rabies, Bordetella) are also up to date. Per Cali's Owners: She really is a great dog. We love her so much, but we aren’t the right family for her. It breaks our hearts to have to let her go, but we know finding a better home for her with only women will better for her in the end.
Cali's owner has requested that an adoption application belonging to Texas Mini Aussie Rescue located on the website Form's page be fully completed http://www.texasminiaussierescue.org/forms.html. All adoption applications received for Cali via the rescues email address listed on the adoption application will be forwarded to her owners who will then contact applicants veterinarian reference(s), personal references and information provided to before making the sole decision on her adoption. Cali's owners will also perform a home visit.

About Texas Mini Aussie Rescue - Austin, TX

About Our Rescue Group...

Texas Mini Aussie Rescue is a non-profit 501(c)3 adoption and referral service dedicated to placing homeless or abandoned Mini Aussies in loving, permanent homes. All representatives and foster families are volunteers – they receive no compensation and do it only for the love of the breed.

Texas Mini Aussie Rescue (TMAR) relies on volunteers throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston areas that provide foster homes for our rescued Mini Aussies where they are prepared for new lives as beloved family members while awaiting adoption. Adoptions are not on a first come first serve basis as our main goal is to match the Mini Aussies we rescue with a forever family that is best suited to each dogs individual personality and needs ensuring a lifetime of love for both the dog and the adopter.

If you are interested in adopting a Miniature Australian Shepherd please review our adoption process located on our website at http://www.texasminiaussierescue.org/adoption-process.html prior to completing an adoption application. In addition applicants are required to provide veterinarian & personal references and allow a friendly home visit from a rescue representative prior to the approval of meeting any of our adoptable dogs. Our adoption process may seem time consuming or unnecessarily complicated to some, but please understand that we have our Mini Aussies best interests at heart. We strive to find the best homes possible for each of our Mini Aussies, as well as find the right Mini Aussie for you and your lifestyle.

All of our Mini Aussies are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped, de-wormed, heart worm tested, on heart worm & flea/tick preventatives as well as treated for any illness or injuries as needed.

Texas Mini Aussie Rescue has a constant need for volunteers in a variety of areas. Most of all we need volunteers who can provide our Mini Aussies with a safe place to stay while being prepared for adoption. Without foster homes we are simply unable to rescue these dogs who are becoming increasingly in need of our help! If you would like to become a foster please complete our Foster Application located on our websites Forms page at http://www.texasminiaussierescue.org/forms.html and email it to info_tmar@yahoo.com. Once your completed application is received and processed a TMAR representative will be in contact with you to provide more information on our foster program and answer any questions you may have. Your help with rescuing this easily exploited and often misunderstood breed is crucial! **Volunteers wanting to foster must meet the same criteria as our adopters

If you are unable to foster and would still like to assist with our rescue efforts, please visit our websites volunteer page for more information on other ways you can volunteer and complete the Volunteer Form so that you can be apart of our team! We welcome volunteers with a variety of expertise and experience in all types of areas not just what is listed on our website. http://www.texasminiaussierescue.org/volunteer.html.

Please keep in mind when submitting any applications or forms that it may take a few days for us to begin processing them. Our organization is completely run by unpaid volunteers, who dedicate their "free time" to help Mini Aussies in need of rescue aside from having full time employment and families to care for.

If you have a Miniature Australian Shepherd in need of our referral or rescue assistance please
complete the Owner Release Form on our websites Forms Page http://www.texasminiaussierescue.org/forms.html or contact us via email at texasminiaussierescue@yahoo.com. Come Meet Our Pets...

Texas Mini Aussie Rescue (TMAR) relies on volunteers throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth and more recently Houston areas who provide foster homes for our rescued Mini Aussies where they are prepared for new lives as beloved family members while awaiting adoption. In order to meet an adoptable Mini Aussie a completed application is required.

Our Adoption Process...

Texas Mini Aussie Rescues goal is to place homeless Miniauture Australian Shepherds into loving homes suited to each individual dog’s needs. We take special care to match the right home with the right Mini Aussie, ensuring a lifetime of love for both the dog and the adopter. To ensure the best matches are made, we have a process that is effective in determining the best homes for our animals. Our adoption process may seem time consuming or unnecessarily complicated, but please understand that we have our dogs’ best interests at heart. We strive to find the best homes possible for each of our dogs, as well as find the right dog for you and your lifestyle.

Please understand that our organization is completely run by unpaid volunteers, who dedicate their free time to help these dogs aside from having full time employment and families to care for. If your references are unavailable, it will delay the process, since those must be checked before moving forward. The entire adoption process takes time; we are unwilling to sacrifice being thorough when the dog’s future is at stake. We thank you for your time and patience throughout our adoption process.

Steps 1 – Fill out an Adoption Application

The first step is to have you fill out an adoption application located on the Forms page. This application will tell us about you and your lifestyle, training beliefs and background with animals. In addition please review our Adoption Contract also located on the Forms page.

PLEASE NOTE: At this time, TMAR has a lack of foster homes with children, Therefore we are unable to place our dogs in homes with young children under the age of 8 years old. We only have a few foster homes that volunteer their time and expertise. We are always in need of foster homes and continue having to turn down rescuing Mini Aussies in shelters due to a lack of foster space. If you are able to help, please complete our Foster Application located on the Forms page to become a foster home.

Step 2 – Application Preliminary Review

Our application review volunteers will initially screen your application to determine if all necessary information was provided. If not you will be contacted to either fill out another application or provide additional information.

Step 3 – Veterinary References Contacted

Our volunteers will contact the veterinary reference(s) you provided to determine if all your current and/or previous pets are spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccinations as well as current on heart worm preventative.

If your veterinary reference(s) cannot verify the spay/neuter, vaccination and heart worm preventative status of current or previous pets, processing of your application will be stopped until you can provide this information.

Step 4 – Landlord Approval Verified

If it is determined that you rent your home, your landlord will be contacted to make sure you have approval to have a dog in your home. If your landlord does not allow for a dog in your home, your application will be denied at this point in the process.

Step 5 – Personal References Contacted

Our volunteers will contact your two personal references and ask them questions in regards to whether they consider you to be a responsible pet owner.

This is the portion of the process that can take the most amount of time. It is helpful if you contact your references and ask them to return our calls in a timely manner.

If our reference checking volunteers have any major concerns about adopting a dog to you, based on communication with your references, your application may be denied at this point in the process.

Step 6 – Home Visit and Applicant Interview

Our organization requires home visits to determine that the dog will be living in a safe environment. This is an informal chance for us to get to know you, your lifestyle, home environment and determine which dog(s) in our program might be the best fit. The home visit volunteer will do a short walk-through of your home and yard to ensure its safety and to advise on any areas of concern. All household members must be present for the home visit.

Distance is a factor in whether or not the required home visit can be completed. We are a 100% volunteer run organization. Since the majority of our volunteers are based in Dallas/Fort Worth and its surrounding areas other locations in Texas may be too difficult for us to locate a volunteer to conduct the home visit at this time. We will let you know ASAP if your application needs to be denied due to our inability to find a volunteer to conduct the home visit. We do not approve out of state adoptions.

If our home visit volunteers have any major concerns about your home environment, or if you refuse a home visit, your application will be denied at this point in the process.

Step 7 – Meeting between Approved Applicant & Available Dogs

Our organization does not have a shelter where the dogs can be visited. Our dogs are in foster homes. We do NOT arrange meetings between interested individuals and our adoptable dogs until an applicant has been approved via this adoption process.

Once you have been approved, a volunteer (usually the foster) will contact you about scheduling a time for you to meet the dog(s) you are interested in. This meeting may occur at the foster’s residence or your home.

Just because you are determined to be an approved adopter, you are NOT guaranteed a particular dog. For some dogs we receive many applications so we may allow multiple applicants to have a meeting with the dog before we choose the home that we feel will be the best fit for the dog. Also, if the volunteer involved in the meeting with you and the dog, does not feel you are a good fit for the dog, you may be denied adoption of that particular dog but you may be allowed to adopt another dog.

Step 8 – Adoption

Once you have been approved to adopt one of Texas Mini Aussie Rescues available dogs you are required to sign an adoption contract and to provide payment of the adoption fee. Please see the Adoption Contract on the Forms page.

The adoption fee for an adoptable Mini Aussie through TMAR is $300.00 which helps to cover veterinarian expenses in regards to spay/neuter surgery, rabies, vaccinations, microchip, exams, heart worm testing, heart worm preventative, flea and tick preventative and treatment for injuries or illnesses as well as any other care realted expenses as needed. Each dog comes with its own matching collar, leash, harness (if available) and TMAR identification tag that is kept on the dog until the adopter is able to replace it with an identification tag of their own. Because veterinarian services and care are expensive the adoption fee is used towards helping TMAR continue to rescue more Mini Aussies in need. All of our dogs are fully vetted prior to becoming available for adoption.

We have a two week refund period meaning if you decide the dog is not a good fit for your home and you return him/her within the two week refund period we will return your adoption fee to you or possibly match you with another dog that is a better fit for your home. The adoption fee will be deposited upon receipt and refunded only if the adopted dog is returned within the two week refund period.

If at any time you are having issues with your adopted dog, please contact TMAR or email your contact person to inform us. A volunteer will be in touch with you asap.

Step 9 –Post Adoption Follow-up Visit

Our adoption contract contains a clause that allows one of our volunteers or a representative the ability to perform a follow-up visit. We may require such a visit to check on how the dog is doing in its new home or if we feel that the terms of the adoption contract are not being met. Texas Mini Aussie Rescue is committed to the life, health and wellbeing of every dog we place for the remainder of that dog’s life. Should the adoption not work out or you need to rehome the dog, we require, by contract that the dog be returned to us.
