Hello I am snuggling Peanut! I have lots of energy and play and nap with my foster mom's other two big dogs and a couple of the cats that will play with me. (Sometimes I chase the kitties that don't want to play but never to bite or hurt them!) Even though I will be right at your feet and want to be close to you, I have to work very hard to stop from scooting away when people wan t to pick me up - I have what my foster mom calls 'first touch' fright. I'm not sure, but maybe I wasn't treated kindly and so it is VERY hard to trust at least right away. So please give me a chance! Once I am picked up - I snuggle right in and almost hug you! But at first please be patient with me. I sleep in a crate in an enclosure at night and don't whine or bark (except the first night - so my foster mom wrapped me up tight in her sweater and talked to me for a few minutes and then I was ok to go back in for the night. I always go on a puppy pad if I can't make it outside. I haven't had an accident at all. So maybe put down a few puppy pads until I get the layout! At first, when I would eat, I would take a bite and then move away, and then back in for a bite and then back out - so I am not used to feeling safe when I eat. It helps if I have a secure area when I eat. So right now I can almost finish my whole bowl without moving away! I would love a forever home! Oh and by the way - I know how to SIT. Come meet me this weekend at the adoption center!

Peanut Brittle is a Male Terrier Mix that we estimate to be born around July 1, 2016.

PUPPIES: Young puppies that have not had their second round of puppy shots will not be at the Adoption Center for our weekend adoption events. If you are interested in adopting a puppy, please fill out an application on our website http://www.k-9angelsrescue.org/adoption_process_k-9_angels_rescue.html. If your application is approved, a meeting can be arranged. Also, we only adopt young puppies locally due to the 4 month timeframe it takes to get them fully vetted and altered.

OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS: We do allow out-of-state adoptions for dogs, however, the adopter MUST come to Houston to get the dog and take the dog home with them. We do not allow our dogs to be shipped. However, we only adopt young puppies locally, due to the 4 month timeframe it takes to get them fully vetted and altered.

SPAY/NEUTER: As we believe proper healthcare of one’s pet is a requirement of good ownership K-9 Angels Rescue only adopts out dogs that have been fully vetted.  If the dog being adopted is not already altered at the time of their adoption, the dog will be altered within 2 weeks of adoption at our vet at our cost, with the exception of puppies which will be altered as soon as the puppy is ready.

NOTE:  All dogs are officially the property of K-9 Angels Rescue until they are altered by our veterinarian.

About K-9 Angels Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

K-9 Angels Rescue is an all-volunteer, all-breed canine rescue organization established in February 2012. As of April 10, 2016, we've found homes for over 2,700 dogs!!

We are a rescue group for shelter dogs who run out of time. In other words, we are not a shelter, have no permanent facilities, and are not equipped to take in dogs from the public. We select dogs from the greater Houston "kill" animal control facilities who would not have made it out alive. (Don't worry! If you need help rehoming a dog, there are other non-profit groups who can assist you.)

No one involved in K-9 Angels receives ANY compensation. Our volunteers are compassionate animal welfare advocates who contribute their time, skills, and finances to shelter homeless dogs in Houston. To save the lives of the abandoned, abused, and stray dogs who end up in Houston's animal control facilities, K-9 Angels relies completely on adoption fees, donations, and our amazing volunteers.

K-9 Angels covers ALL costs for dogs currently in the program. During intake, every dog gets a microchip and is spayed or neutered (if old enough for the procedure). If the dog being adopted is not already altered at the time of their adoption, the dog will be altered within 2 weeks of adoption at our vet at our cost, with the exception of puppies which will be altered as soon as the puppy is ready. We fund all medical care necessary, even if we have to raise extra Helping Paw funds for special cases! From the time they enter the program to the time they graduate, K-9 Angels dogs are kept up-to-date on all vaccines (DHLPPC, bordatella, rabies) as well as heartworm and flea prevention.

We commit to K-9 Angels dogs until they are adopted.
Our volunteer foster homes patiently provide safety, love, and integration into a household environment - a key to successful adoptions. The biographies, pictures, and even videos from foster homes are important "pup-licilty" for our dogs! We are always in need of additional foster homes.

Our goal is a "fur-ever" home! We take every precaution not to contribute to the dog overpopulation problem here in Houston. Applications are processed according to our adoption policies to insure the best situation for our dogs and the families who adopt them.

Our Adoption Process...

Thank you for your interest in adopting a dog from K-9 Angels Rescue! Please understand that not all families and dogs are compatible. Every effort is made to match a dog’s exhibited traits with characteristics you desire in a dog.
As such, adoptions are not done on a first-come, first-served basis. In the event we have multiple applications for the same dog and all applications are equal, we will most likely adopt the dog to the applicant having current or previous dog ownership.

AS A RESCUE, WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DENY ANY APPLICATION.

To be considered as an adopter, you must be:
- At least 23 years of age and possess valid identification showing current residential address;
- Willing and able to invest the time and money required to provide proper care for a dog
(estimated minimum annual cost = $950 per dog);
- Prepared to pay a $200 Adoption Fee (this includes the dog’s spay/neuter, microchip,
boarding, vaccinations, heartworm and flea prevention, and any other medicines or medical
procedures needed);
- Willing to allow us to do a home visit prior to adoption; and
- Prepared to give us your veterinarian’s contact information if you currently own a dog
or have owned a dog in the past
