My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tootsie is a handsome, loyal and dog-friendly five-year-old, 55-pound, male, fawn Labrador Retriever / brush coat Shar Pei-mix with warm brown eyes and a fluffy tail looking for a loving guardian.

Tootsie has the softest fur and gives his favorite people kisses. He knows the command sit and takes treats gently from your fingers.

He would do wonderfully in a home with another dog since he is very playful. He was originally found stray in the Chicago suburbs with his sister who had been hit by a car. She lost one of her legs and has since been adopted.

He’s a smart guy who teaches himself how to open doors. When he settles down in a loving home, I think that fleeing will be the last thing on his mind especially after taking some training classes with his new family.

Typically Shar Pei don’t enjoy playing ball, but Tootsie’s Labrador side loves playing ball and catching Frisbees! The Shar Pei part of him makes him a little slower to warm up to new people.

Tootsie’s adoption fee of $300 benefits the rescued pets of Tails of Hope. He is very healthy, neutered, de-wormed, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm-tested, and on monthly heartworm preventative. He is currently at the Tails of Hope Shelter in Highland Park, Illinois.
