Champ's Story...
Champ is a darling companionable Shih Poo (Shih Tzu / Poodle mix), he has a soft non-shedding white coat with tan highlights and a face that favors his Shih Tzu heritage. Champ weighs 10 pounds and (we guess) was born sometime during 2014. Picked up as a stray by animal control we know absolutely nothing about his background although his manners and demeanor suggest he came from a caring home. Champ arrived at the Safehouse on 11/04/2016, and we named Champ because, like the Cubs, they both began a new life as champions that day. A dirty matted mess, we had to shave him down but, as you can see, his handsome coat is growing back nicely. Champ is adjusting to life here at the Safehouse but this boy needs to be part of a family where all the love and companionship he has to offer will be appreciated. He appears to be housetrained but will need time and guidance adjusting to your household rules and routine. A wonderfully quiet friendly dog with incredibly warm trusting eyes; doling out sloppy kisses to all; his caregivers, our volunteers, the vet, the groomers; Champ loves people. He is soooo waggy tailed happy!! He wants to play!! He wants to be hugged!! A friendly bundle of energy Champ thrives on affection. A perfect pet for an active young family, especially one with children or another small young dog. Champ enjoys car rides, going for walks (well actually he prefers going for runs!!) and meeting new friends, playing with toys, another small dog and/or older children and chasing squirrels (birds will do if there are no squirrels around!!). Champ can accept confinement for brief periods of time but he has too much energy to manage a lengthy lockdown. Limiting him to a large area or small room to help him adjust to your household and schedule would be effective. His favorite place to nap is on a soft pillow or sharing a big bed with you or another dog. There is a lot of love in this little guy just looking for that special someone who will appreciate all that he has to offer. Champ is neutered, has a microchip, is current on all vaccines, heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and has had a complete physical and dental. The adoption fee for Champ is $350.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Champ, a Homer Glen Shih Tzu/Poodle (Miniature) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shih Tzu/Poodle (Miniature) for sale in Homer Glen, or seeking a Shih Tzu/Poodle (Miniature) dog from a breeder in Homer Glen.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Homer Glen already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Homer Glen breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shih Tzu/Poodle (Miniature) breeders who help with Shih Tzu/Poodle (Miniature) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Homer Glen paves the way for another one to be saved.
