Isabella(2)'s Story...
When it comes to choosing a dog companion, many potential adopters don't realize how great older dogs are. They may sleep more and their hearing and/or eyesight may not be as keen as it used to be but the gratitude and instant unconditional love you get from an older rescued dog is immeasurable by the clock or the calendar. Isabella with her big trusting eyes and soft white non-shedding coat is a 15 pound senior citizen, born 11/17/2006. Too old you say?!! No dog is ever too old to give you unlimited trust and love, to anticipate your footfall and welcome you home with wagging tail, to quietly sit by your side and listen to your words of wisdom or just companionably enjoy your favorite book or TV show. From puppy hood, Isabella brought sunshine and purpose into the life of an elderly lady who loved her dearly and, with the help of a dear old friend, gladly cared for her every need. Sadly, when Isabella’s companion died her friend was unable to continue providing for her so she contacted the Safehouse and Isabella arrived here on 11/04/2016. Totally housetrained and leash trained, well mannered, quiet and calm; she can romp like a puppy but not all the time. Sweet gentle Isabella is quiet, friendly and affectionate, a mellow, relaxed, older Shih Tzu who has given love and devotion all her life and wants nothing more than to be with you. She is accustomed to living with a family so she comes with some basic training; she knows what “no” means and when you call her . . . . SHE COMES!! A perfect companion for an older person or couple; Isabella does not have the patience needed to deal with young children, would prefer to be an only dog and seems to ignore cats. Isabella is looking for simple accommodations, a quiet home with a warm bed, regular meals, a walk around the block or through an open-air shopping center, an occasional car ride, a warm sun spot for napping (pillow optional), a lap to snuggle in and loving arms to hold her and let her know she is home once again. The average life expectancy of the Shih Tzu is 14-16 years; every minute will be filled with shared joy and devotion and you will have the pleasure of knowing you made this gentle loving companion’s golden years truly golden. Isabella is spayed, microchipped, current on all vaccines, heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and she has had a complete physical and dental. Her adoption fee is $200. Isabella is eligible for our Senior-to-Senior discount which makes her adoption fee $100 when adopted by a (human) senior citizen..

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Isabella(2), a Homer Glen Shih Tzu dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shih Tzu for sale in Homer Glen, or seeking a Shih Tzu dog from a breeder in Homer Glen.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Homer Glen already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Homer Glen breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shih Tzu breeders who help with Shih Tzu rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Homer Glen paves the way for another one to be saved.
