Kyra will steal your heart in a nanosecond!! Picked up as a stray, no history and no idea how long she was on her own but it must have been quite a while. When picked up by animal control, Kyra was so badly matted that the mats holding her legs together had to be cut apart so she could WALK!! Even after being treated with Capstar and Frontline Plus when the groomer cut into the thick mass covering her back the fleas came flying out!! See that black thing at the tip of her tail in the before photo, that IS the tip of her tail!! Have we turned you stomach yet?? Well, keep reading, there’s more. . . Her face, neck and tummy were covered with tangled mats so tightly wound her hair was ripping right off her skin. Our groomer cleaned her up, shaved her down and, red, raw and bald we brought her back to the Safehouse on 11/03/2016, and gently laid her to rest on a soft pillow and fleece blanket. Kyra was a barely walking 5 pound skeleton but, in spite of her condition, this little angel was wagging her tail and trying to curl up in our arms. Kyra is love with four paws. Even after all she has been through, Kyra is still a loving trusting little dog who wants to please (dogs love us no matter what!!). Although her story has a very sad beginning, we know it will end happily ever after. Thanks to her amazing determination (and youth), lots of loving care, good nourishing food, supplements, and healthy exercise, she is blossoming into a beautiful Shih Tzu with amazingly clear, shiny bright eyes. Her coat is white with tan ears and a tan spot starting to appear on her back. Kyra is very young; we are guessing she was born early in 2016. She loves to roughhouse with her doggie friends and play chase me in the yard. She is learning about toys, chew bones and treats. Kyra is housetrained to a doggie door so she will need help adjusting to your household and schedule and learning to “ask” to go out. Puppies are adorable but they require patience and training; lifestyle changes and commitment. Kyra is much too young and active to be left home alone for extended periods of time. We are looking for a young family to adopt this little girl. Kyra is spayed, microchipped, current on all vaccines, heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and she has had a complete physical and dental. Her adoption fee is $400.
