My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We stumbled upon quite the angel at a local animal shelter a few weeks ago. As we were going through the runs, we came across a dog that met us at her door, seemed to shrug, and then walked back to her bed. Our hearts were simultaneously broken and in love. Our volunteers gave each other “the look” that said we found our girl, we just had to figure out details. When we met her outside, it was game over. This sweet but sad girl just kept winning us over. She tolerated our handling, explored the world, gave us a few kisses and wagged her tail slowly. When she saw a kid who was visiting the shelter, she completely lit up! The sadness seemed to lift off of her for a few minutes and she was just happy in the moment.

We learned from the ACO that the sad and defeated look in her eyes was well-earned. They had known her for over a decade. Not because she was any sort of issue, but because her former owner had his fair share of troubles. Recently he was evicted from their home and left her to fend for herself. She eventually made her way to the pound where the volunteers did their best to give her all the love she deserves. We all know a pound is no place for a senior to rest their lumps, bumps, and weary bones though, no matter the love she receives. We are SO excited to officially announce IRIS as a Thank Dog Rescue girl. Already we’re starting to see the light starting to slowly shine again in her eyes. She has fit in seamlessly at her foster home, with numerous dogs ranging from large to extra extra small. Iris loves to sleep in a comfy bed with her nose buried under the covers. She’s proven to be housebroken and have excellent manners, despite whatever her previous life was like. Iris is estimated to be 12-14 years old. She’s maybe part boxer, maybe part pit bull, maybe part American Bulldog – it’s hard to tell now because she’s so skinny! What we do know for sure is that she’s 100% a love and we’re honored to help her find her best chapter yet!
