Facts about Maya

  • Breed: Domestic Shorthair
  • Color: Tortoiseshell
  • Age: Young
  • Sex: Female
  • ID#: 10813698-AA
  • Hair: Short

Maya (born in May 2016) is in a loving foster home, where she has learned that being inside in a safe, warm environment is much preferable to life in an outside colony. She is still easily startled at times, but has become more relaxed around people, lounging out in the open on furniture or in a cat bed, jumping onto the couch to cuddle up next to a person for petting, and under the right circumstances she may even ask to be picked up and held, or will give her belly for a gentle rub.  She adores her toys, most of all her rattly mouse, puff balls, "ball in the round track," and anything that involves dangling string. She is a lovely cat, with a sweet face and beautiful tortoiseshell markings.

Maya has been tested negative for feline AIDS and leukemia, and is spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on all her vaccinations. Her only need now is a home of her own. Maya does fine with other cats and the cat-friendly dog in her foster home, and might enjoy the company of another animal in her new home. Young children might not be a good match for her at this time, but older children who will respectfully give her the space and patience she needs will be considered.

About Animal Advocates, Inc

About Our Rescue Group...

Animal Advocates is a non-profit, all-volunteer, Pittsburgh-based organization dedicated to ending the suffering, exploitation, and abuse of all animals. We are involved in efforts to help the local companion animal population, community outreach efforts on behalf of the animals, vegetarian outreach efforts, and local animal rights issues
Want to volunteer? Our Animal Rescue Committee provides care for animals that come to us, either in a foster home or at our office. Help is also needed with vet runs, grooming runs, adoption "meet and greets", etc. Our Campaigns Committee organizes demonstrations on animal related issues. Our Vegetarian Committee organizes vegetarian taste fests and tabling events.

Our Adoption Process...

Cat adoption fees are $80
Because a built in playmate and feline friend is a good idea
for many cats\kittens, we offer special discounted pricing
for 2 cats\kittens adopted together.

Adoption fees include spay or neuter, Felv and FIV
testing, vaccinations, deworming and AVID microchip

Adopting a Friend from Animal Advocates

Our cat or kitten adoption fee is $80.00. This includes spaying or neutering, FELV/FIV testing, vaccinations, AVID microchip and lifetime AVID registration . Our cat and kitten adoption contract includes a no declawing policy. We do sometimes have cats available for adoption who have been declawed prior to coming to our rescue.

Our dog adoption fee is $110.00 for adult dogs and $160 for puppies under 6 months old. This includes spaying or neutering, heartworm testing, vaccinations, AVID microchip and lifetime AVID registration.

In addition, rescued animals in our care are vet checked and any existing medical problems are treated. They are routinely treated for internal and external parasites.

Our contract specifies that adopted animals be kept as indoor companions, not in a basement, garage or kennel.
You must be 21 years old or over to adopt and the entire household (other animals included) must be part of the process. Please bring i.d. with proof of your current address. If you rent please bring a copy of your lease, indicating that you are permitted to have companion animals. We reserve the right to do a home visit.
We are not a shelter. Our rescued animals stay in volunteer foster homes until they find forever homes. We get to know them very well and do our best to make the best possible match for both animals and humans.
Our senior discount is 20% off the adoption for "ripened to perfection" animals 10 years of age and over.
Sometimes we have animals who are extremely bonded with each other and truly need to go home together. In these cases the adoption fee will be reduced.
