Dior and Gucci
The Designer Kittens
DOB: August 2016
Meet Dior and Gucci, our Designer Kittens. They showed up with their mom at a small colony feeding station in the yard of one of our volunteers in October 2016.
Now in foster care with us, Dior and Gucci are flourishing. Their mother obviously was previously someone’s pet as she is sweet and very friendly. However, it was very obvious that Dior and Gucci had never had exposure to people at all. They were frightened and would run and hide when their foster mother approached. They are now making great strides, but still have a distance to go. Presently, they are comfortable with their foster family. They start to purr when you enter their room, and love being petted. They arch their backs when they get the full-body rub. They like to play with their toys and enjoy play sessions with their foster family. If you set them on your lap they will stay for a short while and enjoy being petted. They are still uncomfortable being picked up, and are easily startled by quick movements and noises.
“Hi. My name is Gucci. My fur is soft and silky. I am a brown tabby with white socks and a white scarf. The lower part of my face and nose are also white. I have very distinctive and gorgeous markings around my nose – there is a brown smudge just to the right of my nose, and the tip of my nose is black. That’s why I’m a designer kitten. I’m DEFINITELY not ordinary. My favourite toy is the laser dot. I love climbing into the bathtub (with no water, of course) and chasing the dot up and down the walls around the tub. I can make giant leaps into the air like an Olympic gymnast. Every once in a while, I’m sure I catch the dot, but it always escapes through my fingers. I don’t know why. I like my foster mom very much, but sometimes I’m still scared. When she tries to pick me up and hold me, I feel like I have to hang on very tight with my nails and toes. It’s a little scary.”
Dior and Gucci will be a fine addition to a family who is willing to take the time to allow them to get comfortable in the new home on their own terms. Once the girls get used to the people in their new family, their sociability will continue to grow as they gain confidence..
