Alex is a great guy! This handsome boy is happy and super affectionate. He always wants to be near his people unless he is playing with his toys. He is a nice medium size. He was rescued from the shelter at the end of September.
Age: 1 yr old
Weight: 45 lbs
Breed: Our guess is Boxer / Pit Mix
Demeanor: Alex is a confident and loving guy, who still has some puppy qualities. He has plenty of energy for playing, but he also enjoys his down-time. He is great with other dogs. He seems to be a natural leader and does not take the bait when other dogs are not as nice as he is. He craves petting and has not yet learned to wait his turn when others are getting attention .... but we are working on that. He loves all people - both adults and children.
Likes: Alex likes being petted, getting treats, playing with toys or other dogs, and stuffed animals that he can pull the stuffing out of. He is absolutely adorable when running around outside tossing his toys and amusing himself.
Manners: Alex was a stray and it doesn't appear that he lived in a house and learned the things that beloved pets need to know. However, he is very intelligent and is learning quickly. He learned how to sit and use a doggie door the first day he was in his foster home. And as he is very treat motivated, it will help him to learn other things. Riding in cars was not familiar to him at first, but now he enjoys it and is a nice calm rider. He didn't know that he shouldn't use the bathroom in the house at first, but he is getting it now. If the doggie door is open for him, he will always go out to relieve himself, but if not, he needs to learn to hold it. We are working on leash training .... he is a strong boy, and sometimes it takes some convincing for him to come along. He doesn't mind being crated, but he cries when he is left alone and is quite excited when you get back home. And, he needs to learn to tell the difference between his toys and the things that are not to be played with ... he is still doing some puppy chewing. Alex is such a good natured dog who will be motivated to learn to make his people happy.
Other: He doesn't mind being crated, but he cries when he is left alone and is quite excited when you get back home. He is too exuberant to be crated for long periods of time. In his forever home, if his family is gone most of the day, having another dog would be best for him.
Fenced Yard Required: Yes. Alex enjoys running laps and will amuse himself by playing with toys in the yard.
Alex has not been cat tested, but it can be arranged. He is up to date on his shots, neutered and microchipped.
