My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Carter is a cute Boxer mix with a gorgeous brindle coat. He was born around September 2014 and is almost 3 years old now.

Our street team, who feeds stray and neglected dogs in a bad part of town, found him laying motionless in the middle of the road. Luckily, after calling out to him, he happily came limping down to greet our volunteer. Poor Carter was malnourished and he had an injured knee. Yet, he was as sweet as sugar and just couldn’t believe his luck, someone finally noticed him and filled up his tummy with delicious food.

Carter is currently living in a loving foster home and has adjusted nicely. He had surgery to repair his knee and his leg has healed. He gained a few pounds, gotten rid of fleas and worms, and now he just won’t stop smiling! Carter is clearly pleased with his new life. He makes friends easily with humans (little ones included), other dogs and cats alike. He is house and crate trained, walks on leash without pulling, knows basic commands and is eager to please.

Here is what his foster mom has to say about him:
He is so funny and engaging in his playtime. He likes to interact with humans and dogs with kisses, snuggles and playing keep away. He loves to lounge and relax and enjoys to stretch and do puppy yoga. Sometimes he’ll combine them by wrestling or playing tug but only if he can lie down on his back during it. My dog often drags Carter around the floor with a toy during extra-lazy Carter tug.

His favorite activity is snuggling on a pile of humans or dogs and receiving belly rubs. He is such a cuddle bug. Carter also loves to snuggle with blankets and be wrapped up in them. He will drag his blankets around with him to the best napping spot and rearrange them just right before settling in.

He talks like a Schnauzer when I tell him to quite down if he is barking at something out the window, but he will quite down. He has learned to stay off the furniture. He has learned to wait at the door to wipe his feet before going inside. He has learned to wait for an release command before leaving the front door. He is perfectly housetrained and will wait by the door if he has to go potty. He takes treats gently out of your hands. He loves all toys and even can entertain himself if you don’t have time to play with him.

Our sunshine is ready to put a smile on your face. He is eager to find his very own happy ending and he deserves one after living life of a neglected street dog. Humans may have failed him in his first years of life but he promises he won’t ever fail you.
