Facts about Tessa

  • Breed: Domestic Shorthair
  • Color: Gray Or Blue (Mostly)
  • Age: Adult
  • Sex: Female
  • Hair: Short
Teeny tiny Tessa makes up for her small size by having a vivacious purr-sonality. Tessa loves to be in the thick of things-- chasing a toy, bouncing from person to person to get a little petting, or really just bouncing. Tessa has been fine with cats who don't try to push her around, but Tessa will not be bullied, so she would do best as an only or with a cat who will let her have her space. Tessa is a ton of fun in a very cute package so if you have a soft spot for the scrappy underdog... errr cat-- you should meet this dainty dynamo.

About Protectors of Animals

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a NO-Kill rescue and shelter for cats and dogs.

POA was formed in 1975 to rescue abandoned, abused and stray cats and dogs. Today we are one of the oldest and most respected animal welfare organizations in the northeast. POA is here to stay! You will not find a more dedicated, experienced or thorough resource for improving the lives of Connecticut cats and dogs. We confine our focus to our home state because this is where our infrastructure and resources reside, as well as our leadership.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Cat and Kitten Adoption Events and Open House every Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM at our cat shelter: 144 Main Street, East Hartford, CT. Visit and interact with our cats and kttens in our feline playroom to help make the perfect selection for your home.

Petsmart at 5 Main Street, East Hartford, CT has a selection of our available cats that need loving homes. You can visit them anytime during Petsmart's hours. POA has volunteers every Saturday and Sunday from 10AM to 2 PM at this location to answer your questions and to help you start the adoption process.

Select adoptable dogs are shown at Petsmart in East Hartford the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month from 10-1 pm. Also select dogs are at Petco in Middletown the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10 am - 2 pm. Otherwise we would be happy to set up a private appointment for you to meet the dog who interests you.

Our Adoption Process...

We do have a screening and application process. Our dog application can be found at this link; https://us6.sheltermanager.com/service?account=ms1048&method=online_form_html&formid=4 Protectors of Animals requires a veterinarian check before any adoption.

One of our experienced Placement Team members will meet with you and show you the cat, kitten or dog you are interested in, or will guide you towards cats, kittens or dogs that are appropriate for your home environment. We will discuss with you the background of the cat, kitten or dog and what special needs or requirements he or she may have. We will happily take the time to carefully answer any questions you have or discuss any concerns.

POA does not charge an adoption “fee.” It costs POA anywhere from $100 and $400, or more, per dog or cat or kitten to make them well and prepare them for adoption. We are an all-donation organization and we rely on adoption donations to help us continue our work. When you adopt a cat or dog, we will ask for a donation. Our adoption donation information can be found at our website at www.poainc.org.
