Meet sweet Maltipoo Stella! Stella is still healing from her horrid ordeal on the streets, her skin is healing and fur growing back in - she had to be shaved as she was one huge matted mess, poor girl. She is a tiny girl at less than 5 pounds. She is estimated to be 9-11 months old.

This girl is SUPER AFFECTIONATE and loves cuddles and hugs!

We are taking applications for Stella but she will not be available for adoption until medically cleared which will not be until around early/mid December. We will update her progress here and on our facebook page. Because Stella appears to have been overbred, she will need to be carried or strolled most of the time when taken out. She has problem hips and knees. If carried in a baby/body strap harness carrier or stroller, she can live a long and healthy life. Also one must watch her weight and make sure she doesn't play with dogs much larger than her (if she would allow it) or children under 14. Stella is super fragile, she mustn't jump off furniture or do anything to wear down her joints. If she is properly taken care of, she should live a great, long, pain free life for a very long time!

Stella's fee: $225

we do not do "first come first serve" on applications, rather we pick the best possible home for our dogs after considering all applicants. Thank you!

About South Side Street Dogs

About Our Rescue Group...

The street dogs in Houston's Sunnyside neighborhood are in desperate need of help. They live in deplorable conditions fending off starvation and abuse. South Side Street Dogs is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that works exclusively and tirelessly for the street dogs of this area.
SSSD strives to change the attitudes towards animals in the hearts and minds of residents in Sunnyside- working to raise a sense of compassion through education, awareness, and setting an example of humane human to human/human to companion animal coexistence by our presence in the field.
SSSD aims to change lives through action and awareness- not just enriching the lives of the animals, but also of the residents.

SSSD does NOT pull from shelters or accept dogs from the general public.
We only accept STREET DOGS into our program from our feeding routes on the streets of Sunnyside if fosters and funding are available. There is a waiting list of triaged street dogs, prioritised by the dogs in most danger feverishly networked and placed first. Minor injuries and illnesses are vetted in the field and seriously injured dogs are taken off streets and vetted asap.

Our goal is to rescue the street dogs before they end up in the wrong hands.

Here is a small glimpse of the area we work and what we do:

Come Meet Our Pets...

We do not have a public facility. Our adoptable pets live in volunteers' foster homes and some even in boarding facilities due to lack of fosters. If you see a companion you feel would would fit in with you and your family, please contact us for an adoption application. You can not visit with one of our dogs until you are approved for adoption.

Additionally, if you feel you would like to open your home to an animal in need as a foster, please fill out an online foster application!

Fosters are an invaluable resource in the work that we do rescuing these homeless dogs from the streets. It is a very rewarding way for dog lovers to give back to the community!

Our Adoption Process...

Thank you for considering adopting a rescue companion! We look forward to helping you on your journey to finding the perfect friend for you and your family. We strive to ensure that each pet is a good match on a variety of lifestyle, energy, temperament, and personality levels.

Our adoptable pets have lived lives of homelessness, neglect, abuse, and in extreme cases, even torture. In order to visit with one of our adoptable pets, you must first be approved for adoption. To start the ball rolling, please contact us for an adoption application today! You must first be approved for adoption before you can visit with one of our adoptable pets.

Adoption policy & fees:

One must be 25 years of age or older to adopt one of our pets, and have a valid photo ID with matching current address; agree to home visit; be able to provide a stable home physically and financially for the pet.

Our online adoption application:

Non-refundable Adoption Fees:

PUPPIES UNDER 5/6 MONTHS *depending on breed/weight
**((Note: Unsterilized puppies under 5 months are on foster-to-adopt contract only, and adoption is final ONLY when pup has undergone spay/neuter surgery. Until that time, the pup remains in our name, our "property" under the law and adopter is considered a foster until surgery has been completed. Adopter can opt to use their own vet for spay/neuter at their expense by date set by rescue. Adoption will not be final until proof of spay/neuter submitted to rescue.))

Chapter 828 of the State of Texas Health and Safety Code specifies that all animals adopted from humane organizations be spayed/neutered.
For this reason, we do NOT adopt puppies under 6 months out of the Houston area.
