How to Adopt Me

Looking for a lap, Elvis & his pal, Nala, have been together for years and need to stay together. Abandoned by their former owner who moved out of state, they are being fostered by a relative until a good home is found.  He is 10; she is 8. They're lifelong indoor lap cats... very loving. While both cats are fixed, neither has ever been vaccinated & at their age the vet advised against it.  Only homes where these kitties can live indoors and together will be considered. Please call 530- 233-2037 to arrange a meeting with these fine felines.

About High Plateau Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

An all-volunteer organization, HPHS was founded in 1987. We rescue hundreds of dogs and cats each year. Our Second Chance Thrift Store on First and Court Streets in Alturas is open Tues-Sat, accepting your tax-deductible donations of miscellanea, which we then resell. Come in to purchase items such as low-cost spay/neuter certificates, pet supplies and lots of donated treasures. We do this because we have a passion to rescue orphaned and homeless animals and want to make life better for the "underdogs" in our county.

Come Meet Our Pets...

People can visit our Second Hand Thrift Store to see the adoptable cats five days a week, closed Sundays & Mondays.

Call or e-mail ahead if you are interested in meeting one of the adoptable dogs, as they are all fostered & so special arrangements must be made.

Our Adoption Process...

When someone releases an animal to HPHS, we require a signed release form. we then have the animal vaccinated and fixed before offering it for adoption. We charge $100 to adopt an adult dog, $125 for puppies and $50 to adopt a cat, and that helps to cover the cost of spay or neuter. If we cannot find a home locally, we transfer the animal to a larger city with a "no-kill" policy so it can be adopted in an urban area.
