Winston was picked up in September 2016 with sever demodex mange and was scheduled to be euthanized on 10-4-16. We saw him as we were picking up other animals to take to an event and could not resist the sad face and pain he looked like he was in. We nursed him back to health with the assistance of SAPA! and he's now growing hair.
He is a snuggle bug and likes to sleep with his head somewhere near your head or somewhere on your body. He's quite energetic, but he's supposed to be as he is just about 6 months old. He's a puppy in so many ways we can't even count them. He is loyal and very determined. He loves to be touched and pet and sit in your lap even though he weights 30-35 pounds.
He is smart and likes to think that he is training the trainer, He knows some commands, and he is for the most part potty trained. (If he's taken out enough he won't have any accidents.) He gets along with other dogs that are not type A personality and he gets along with some cats. He will go in his kennel if you toss a couple of pieces of dry dog food in it as he is food driven. He's great with kids and loves to sleep with them also.

About San Antonio Pets Alive

About Our Rescue Group...

San Antonio Pets Alive (SAPA!) is a new organization that will be modeled after the very successful Austin Pets Alive (APA). APA was instrumental in helping Austin achieve their goal of no longer euthanizing healthy, adoptable pets from the city shelter. SAPA has teamed up with Animal Care Services in order for the city of SA to reach their no-kill goal.

In partnership with San Antonio’s Animal Care Services, we are implementing innovative and progressive programs to:

Rescue as many pets as possible off of the daily “euthanasia list”. In our rescue program, to not duplicate work of other agencies, we focus solely on the pets who have already been passed over by other groups and the shelters’ adoption programs and create programs to save their lives and find them new homes.

Our rescue program is focused 100% on the dogs and cats who are about to be killed. We wait until the shelters have chosen the pets they want for their adoption programs and other rescue groups have pulled the pets that they can take, then we go in and rescue the rest that we can fit into our programs.
