Hello there! My name is Darla the Star! I am an absolutely beautiful and sweet cat! I have a beautiful soft coat and I love to be pet! I am very affectionate and love to be scratched under my chin and love to sit in laps! I adore delicious meals and I will let you know how appreciative I am of everything you do with little cute chirps and meows!

I am FIV+ but just ask the nice folks at RACC to give you some information if you aren't familiar with the condition. It isn't transferable to humans. I'd probably do best as an only cat or with other FIV+ cats but it really is a very manageable diagnosis! I promise I'm worth it!

Come and meet me today - you will fall in love! My foster mom says I'm one of the sweetest cats she has ever met!

Also, you might want to meet one of my kittens, Quacky. He's a bit of a momma's boy and we love hanging out together. Maybe you could give us both a forever home together!? That would be so wonderful! Come and meet us today!!!

About Richmond Animal Care and Control

About Our Shelter...

Richmond Animal Care & Control (RACC) provides pet adoption, pet lost and found services, pet licensing, spay/neuter outreach and cruelty investigation for Richmond, VA. RACC operates the public animal shelter for the City of Richmond.

We depend on volunteers to help provide comfort and companionship to our pets awaiting adoption. We always need additional volunteers to cuddle our kitties, walk our pups, and assist with off-site adoption events!

Donate to Our Shelter...

Monetary donations may be made to Richmond Animal Welfare Foundation through the website http://www.richmondgov.com/AnimalControl/index.aspx

Come Meet Our Pets...

Adoption hours: Wed. - Friday, 1- 7 p.m.; Saturday, 12 - 5 p.m. and Sunday 12 - 4 pm. The shelter is located in 1600 Chamberlayne Avenue, Richmond, VA 23222.

Our Adoption Process...

Adopters are required to complete a written adoption application and meet with our adoption placement coordinator. Adoption fees cover the cost to spay/neuter, vaccinate, micro-chip and test for heart worms (dogs) and FIV/FELV (cats). Our adoption phone number is 804-646-5575. www.Richmondgov.com/animals

Those interested in adopting an animal from RAC&C must visit our shelter in person to meet and interact with the animals. Once a selection is made, the prospective adopter completes a two-page written application. The application is immediately reviewed by staff and will be approved on the spot unless the adoption staff feels this adopter and animal are not a suitable match. If the adoption is approved, the adopter pays the pet's adoption fee. If the animal is spayed/neutered and current on vaccinations, the pet may go home on the spot! If the animal is not spayed, our staff makes arrangements for the pet to be spayed/neutered at a local vet clinic. The adopter picks the pet up at RAC&C after the pet's surgery. Appointments are made quickly, and the adopter usually has the pet within a few days.
Adoption fee - $100
Cats and kittens may be adopted two for the price of one!
Pets age 9 years and older may be adopted for no fee with an approved application.

All City of Richmond, VA residents are legally required to purchase an annual $10.00 license for each pet owned.
