Trumpet has an Angel... Sharon Harper.  SCMR thanks you and Trumpet thanks you too!!

Hello....... I'm Trumpet, and I'm happy to be in caring hands.

I had been terribly neglected after my Daddy passed away and a small cyst was allowed to go untreated for a long time.  It became a cancerous tumor, and SCMR had it removed after I was saved from the shelter.  We are still waiting for further testing, but the doctor thinks that I have a good possibility of a full recovery.  Because of the poor condition I was in when I arrived and the resulting extreme surgery, my coat was in very poor condition, but it is coming back in soft wispy waves that will soon cover my freckles.  I stood absolutely still and relaxed while foster mom snipped the last of the mats off me.  I really like that pampering stuff!

My teeth had probably never been cleaned, and I had to have 18 extractions.  I am eating just fine now with the pearly whites that are left.  Dogs have a lot more teeth than people do, thank goodness!!  I also needed to be neutered and that was a breeze.  After all those procedures I'm feeling terrific, and I have made friends with Buffy, another little fluff butt at my foster moms.

I am full of fun and listen intently to everything you say to me.  I'm house trained and a complete gentleman.   Foster mom did a little digging and found out my real name.  Holy smokes, was I excited when she called me by my own name!   The shelter had given me the name Trumpet, and I was so confused, but now they know who I am.  So don't worry... that BIG secret will be shared with my new family.

I'm about 11 years old and around 13 pounds; a bit taller than other Maltese, so there's a little mix of some kind of sneaky dog.

Until somebody is lucky enough to get me, I'm doin' some R&R in Largo, FL.

Out-of-state adoptions are possible; however, the approved adoptive home is responsible for making the necessary arrangements to pick up their new little one.

To be considered to adopt me, please fill out an APPLICATION.

NOTE: SCMR DOES NOT adopt to homes with children under the age of 10 years or homes with Electric Fences.

You can help make a difference one dog at a time.

About SCMR - FL

About Our Rescue Group...

We are dedicated to rescuing and caring for Maltese and other toy breeds (as room allows) who are either rescued from shelters, found as strays, or no longer wanted by their family.

We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization so all donations are tax deductible. These little dogs need YOUR help now. SCMR takes in many "extreme-needs" Maltese and our vet bills can be very high. Every little bit helps. Additionally we can always use things such as dog beds, heartworm preventative, flea preventative, harnesses etc. Donations can be made out to SCMR and mailed to:

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our dogs are in wonderful foster homes, throughout the US, primarily in the southeast.. We are sorry, but there is no "shelter" available for you to visit.

We are committed to finding the best home possible for each of our little ones, so that they don't end up in a similar situation down the road. Out of state adoptions are possible. The new owner is required to help with the transportation of the dog though, as we will not ship them. Additionally, all dogs requiring transportation must have a crate or seat-belt harness for their safety.

FOSTER A PET
Can't adopt? Consider being a FOSTER PARENT. All foster homes undergo the same screening that an adoptive home will. You must be committed to the potential lifetime care of the animals and be responsible for helping select and qualify their forever homes. IF YOU CAN FOSTER, please fill out a FOSTER APPLICATION.

Our Adoption Process...

To be considered to adopt one of our babies, please fill out an APPLICATION. A PDF version of the application is also available for download. Adopting any animal takes a lot of commitment. We require an application, reference check, home visit, and adoption donations depending upon the age of the animal and the medical expenses. Each dog has had all vaccinations, been dewormed, heartworm tested (and treated if necessary), dental (if needed), spay/neuter, and any other medical attention he/she needs. The adoption fee helps recover a PORTION of the money spent on each rescued animal.
We need COMPLETED applications; we cannot start the adoption approval process unless we have a fully completed application.

If you do not supply complete information on your APPLICATION, we do not have time to track it all down. Vet contact information on your application is very important, please include it.

PLEASE CAREFULLY READ THE BIO OF ANY DOG IN WHICH YOU ARE INTERESTED SINCE THERE MAY BE ADOPTION RESTRICTIONS. We do NOT adopt to homes with children under the age of 10 years or homes with Electric Fences.

Homes with fenced yards are given preference to those without (all other things being equal).

Please understand that this is a volunteer effort and we all work full time in addition to doing rescue. Any help in speeding up the adoption process is appreciated. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

** NOTE** We do NOT encourage giving pets as GIFTS. However, you may pay the adoption fee as a 'gift' for your special someone, but we will require an adoption application to be completed by the adopter (recipient of your 'gift').

Our dogs come to us from various sources including shelters. We do not always know the full history of the dog, some have come from abusive or neglectful situations. We will share as much information on the dogs as we can with 'approved prospective homes'.

When an application is approved, the home check goes well, and all vet references and application information checks out, a signed and notarized contract is required to finalize the adoption process. MS Word and PDF versions of our Adoption Contract are available for download from our website, scmradoption.com.
