Yesterday, as we were driving through the drive thru of Subway in Benton... Lola, one of our volunteers, noticed two kittens by the dumpster. They were meowing. We finished getting our food... and then walked to the back. We noticed some food bowls and realized someone had been feeding them. We were able to coax the tuxedo kitten into a kennel with some food, but the little grey kitten was scared. We went to get a trap and set it with some food and walked away. She never came out. It killed us to leave her overnight.... but there was nothing we could do until she got hungry enough to go in the trap. A nice lady named Patti came up as we were working to try to get the kittens and she told us she'd been feeding them for the past two weeks after she too saw them when driving through the drive thru. We settled in the little tuxedo kitten at the rescue and waited. This morning Patti went by and the little kitten would go in a little ways and was even eating, but the trap was not tripping. grrrr. After a little bit longer, though... it finally tripped. We brought in the little grey kitten in a kennel to the Meow House and she was meowing... and the little tuxedo kitten started meowing. They definitely knew each other's voice! It was so heartwarming to see them reunited. These two were definitely DUMPED at Subway. They are not feral so they have had human touch. So sad that someone was heartless enough to do this to defenseless kittens. Subway said there were three, but there's no telling what happened to the third. We named the little tuxedo "Lola" after our volunteer Lola who was able to get him... and the grey kitten "Patti" after the lady whose been feeding them. More info coming soon!
