Hi, my name is Moonshine! I'm a sweet older gentleman looking for a loving home to call my own. I have been diagnosed with Dermatitis:

Your pet was diagnosed with a skin infection (dermatitis, or pyoderma). This common condition occurs when the normal bacteria in the skin overgrow. This can happen for a variety of reasons including allergies (especially to fleas), contact irritation, humidity/moisture on the skin, irritation from clipping/grooming, etc. We have treated her with antibiotics and/or medicated baths and the skin is improved. Occasionally skin infections can be due to an underlying condition such as an allergy to something in the environment or a common pet food ingredient. If this is the case, the skin infection will heal on antibiotics but may recur weeks or months later due to an underlying tendency toward infections. Itchiness may also be noted. She should be monitored for red or moist patches of skin, red bumps, or itchiness and brought to a veterinarian if these occur because additional diagnostics or treatments may be needed.

About Atlanta Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

Atlanta Humane Society (AHS) is a 501(c)3 tax exempt nonprofit (IRS Tax ID# 58-0685900) and the oldest private charitable organization in Atlanta, founded in 1873 following a visit to the city by Robert E. Lee. The animal charity was originally chartered to protect women, children, and animals and remained a child protection and animal welfare society for 79 years. AHS, now a widely recognized pet adoption center, clinic, and educational program provider, was originally located on Marietta Street and moved to its location at 981 Howell Mill Road in the 1930s. Atlanta Humane Society's Mansell Road Adoption Facility was opened in December of 2011 in Alpharetta.

It is our mission to prevent neglect, abuse, cruelty and exploitation of animals and to assure that their interests and well-being are fully, effectively and humanely protected by an aware and caring society.

Atlanta Humane Society places approximately 8,000 animals into forever homes each year. AHS is committed to finding homes for all adoptable pets. We do not euthanize adoptable animals, and there are no time limits for the animals once they are in our care. We only humanely euthanize those animals suffering from significant medical issues or that pose behavior concerns. We are proud to be a part of the solution to ending pet homelessness and overpopulation in the Southeast United States.
