Buttons's Story...
Update since being in foster care:
Buttons has been in an ATTR Foster Home going through a bit of a rehab to show him the world is not a big and scary place. The foster family has done wonders for him and he has been into the adoption center and the Rescue Team was amazed at his progress. When he came to us he had matted fur that was so long we could not see his paws, they were wrapped in fur. He would not let anyone touch him and did his best to get away from us. Now after months of slow steady progress, we feel he is ready to meet his forever family. It will still be work for the forever family but we will provide you will all the tools, guidance and resources we have. This will be a process and we will insist on certain things at transition time into a new home. His new home must be close to the Frankfort location, must have a fenced in yard or run for potty, other small, friendly dogs in the home, no small kids. Fill out an application online to meet him. www.alsiptotherescue.org

Buttons came in with another rescue Barney and feel they have never been outside of a cage before. His entire existence has been viewed from inside a wire cage. They both came in partially shaved their feet unseen due to the hair that grown around the pads. He is scared of the new world around him. He has been with ATTR for several weeks now. Buttons and Barney are making progress with the staff slowly. They are still very scared of the world. We are looking for Foster homes for them independently. We need the potential fosters to come in and work with them building up relationships with them first. When able to handle them without the help of the staff then they can be moved into homes for the next step of the rehabbing.
Alsip To The Rescue (ATTR) strives as a rescue to make sure that when our adopters take home their new rescue they feel they have the support and access to all resources which ATTR can provide. If you want to learn how you can set your new rescue up to succeed and blend in with your family, we will give you tips on what to do when you first bring home a new rescue. You can fill out an application in the to meet our rescues. www.alsiptotherescue.org!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Buttons, a St John Shih Tzu dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shih Tzu for sale in St John, or seeking a Shih Tzu dog from a breeder in St John.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in St John already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a St John breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shih Tzu breeders who help with Shih Tzu rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in St John paves the way for another one to be saved.
