My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Howdy folks! My name is Joel and I’m a Labrador/Pittie mix. I’m told I’m more of a pocket-sized boy since I’m only 40 pounds. (Doesn’t that sound adorable ladies?!) I’m from KY and between 3-4 years old. To give you a little idea about me, I thought I would tell you my story. It’s a tear-jerker I’m told, so you might want a tissue handy. Ready? Ok.
I came from a very sad state in KY. I was kept outside on a heavy chain and with no food. I was what hoomans call “skin and bones”, meaning that you could easily see and count each one of my ribs. I was very sad and lonely and even worse, my name was Demon. It was not a fitting name for me since I am nothing short of a sweet boy. I guess you could say I got lucky because a Good Samaritan, who was sneaking food to me decided to take action and call someone to help me. I was barely moving when I was found I was so weak. I had been on that heavy chain my whole life. I didn’t know what it was like to be inside, well fed or loved. I was what is called a “lawn ornament”.
An officer was sent out to see me and check out my conditions. When he saw me, he immediately called a woman in rescue and said “come and get him now!” When the lady came and got me my little butt just started to wiggle back and forth. I just knew that she was kind and going to help save my life! I even gave her a big ole’ wet kiss! And that was the day my chain was cut and the sad life I had been born into and lived for years ended. My life in rescue and love was about to begin. The lady told me on the car ride about how great my life was going to be from now on and I would never feel like this again! And she was right! I got a belly full of food for the first time and it was amazing! I slept like a baby that night I ended up being fostered by the people that were the “Good Samaritans” and they were so sad when they had to give me up since they said I was “so amazing”. I loved their grandchildren and everyone I met! But I knew that I needed to hop on the Mobile Mutt train and head up North to find my forever family.
I’m told I’m eager to please and very loving. I have excellent house manners, which surprises myself considering I lived outside my whole life! Go me! I would love some kids that I can wrestle/play with and someone to cuddle with! You say you love to run!? Well I’m your mutt! Fitness is very important in my book! Oh, and I don’t really like cats.
Oh and you are probably wondering how I went from being named “Demon” to “Joel”? Well it just so happens that the officer who saved my life back in that KY backyard was named Joel and my rescuer thought it was fitting to be named after such a good and kind-hearted person.
I look forward to meeting you, giving you a kiss and wiggling my little butt for you and showing you how much of a “rags-to-riches” story I really am!
