Clark is a 40 lb, 2 year old, stunning tricolor field English Setter. Like Clark Kent, SWESR Clark can be timid, shy and sometimes fearful. But he is smart and we can see that superdog inside coming out in him. He will do well with a calm, patient and understanding family to help him understand this new wonderful life in front of him. Clark came from a backyard breeder seizure situation in N TX with ten other dogs. All of the dogs appear to have been socialized so we think Clark has a naturally timid nature on top of the rough start.
He can be an independent little boy and he is respectful of his foster parents. He quietly waits for special treats and attention and is not demanding in his needs. He accepts that the resident dog gets treats first and they can be fed near each other. He enjoys playing with the 5 year old resident male Setter and we think another active dog in the home will be helpful for Clark. He is good with other dogs and was respectful to our Vet’s clinic cat.
We do not think any of the dogs from the seizure were previously leash trained so his training is in process and he is compliant and learning. He needs at least a medium sized yard with a 6 foot fence so he can safely and securely exercise daily. He is not extremely high energy like many young ES. He enjoys his outside time but seems to prefer being inside with his foster family. He is not a candidate for an apartment, an invisible fence or for hunting. Because of his timid nature, he needs a home where doors and gates are closely monitored and never left open. He hasn’t had any issues with children but we feel a home without young children would be best for providing him a fairly quiet and predictable environment.
Clark will develop into a loyal companion with an adoptive environment and family who is patient and understands how shy and reserved he is. He loves belly rubs and just needs time to learn to trust. He does like to be the center of attention - on his own terms. He often refuses dog treats and does not seem food motivated. However he loves popcorn, cheese and other human treats. These will probably be his high value treats in training.
Clark is in a foster home in Plano, Texas. He was treated for heartworms, he showed no symptoms of heartworm disease and is recovering nicely. He is crate trained and is doing well with his housetraining thanks to supervision in the house by his foster parents. He is neutered, micro-chipped, current on vaccines, and on heartworm preventative. Are you the kind and gentle family this sweet little boy is looking for?
