1y 15lbs of Jack energy, Sally Russell is a ball of energy. Very sweet, loves people and dogs. We haven't yet cat tested her.

Here are her shelter notes:
Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds.
Squeeze 2: 3. Dog is soft in body and eye, and moves her legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw
Toy: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the toy, and she is not stiff. No growling or stiffness.
Summary: Sally displayed no behavioral concerns on her assessment.

PLAYGROUP: 11/28: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Sally is fearful upon initial greeting. Sally eventually warms up and begins to play exuberantly, often soliciting running chase play.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 11/23/16 During her initial medical exam Sally allowed all handling.

ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (Suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)

Please go to our site http://zanisfurryfriends.org
fill out an application and return to dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org
Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on on Sundays and sometimes on Saturdays--please ask by writing us at dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application by Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.

Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate!

If you want to know about cats/dogs specifically being shown at our adoption locations, please email us cats@zanisfurryfriends.org closer to the date so we know your interest and will make every effort to have that pet at the event or let you know how and where you can meet.  It is extemely helpful and speeds up adoption if the application is filled out prior to visiting us so please do that before coming to our weekend events. Our weekend locations are: Sundays usually and some Saturdays.  Follow us on FB for latest updates. Usually we are in our foster homes so all this is a bit more stressful but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster. And you can always donate:) Cats and Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD w/ all age appropriate shots and microchipped. Cats are feline combo tested for FIV/FeLV; dogs are heartworm tested and rabies vax'd, (NOT lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it); rabbits are spayed/neutered. About Zani's Furry Friends CT Connection

About Our Rescue Group...

Zani's Furry Friends is an organization committed to rescuing companion animals from New York City's shelters where, unfortunately, they are at risk for euthanasia due to overcrowding. Each dog or cat rescued from a shelter opens a cage and gives an opportunity to another pet to await a chance for adoption or rescue, thereby potentially saving yet another life.

Although we are not always sure of the pedigree or background of each animal, those we place are generally well socialized family pets who came to the shelter through no fault of their own. We rescue kittens and puppies as well as adult animals who deserve another chance for a loving home. We do not have a shelter or boarding facility, but instead rely upon foster homes to shelter and nurture our furry friends until a loving forever home is found. Our dogs and cats are all up to date with vaccines, and spayed or neutered. Dogs are microchipped and heartworm negative and cats have tested negative for FIV (if old enough) and FeLV. Young kittens must be adopted in pairs or to homes with other cat(s) to ensure the companionship and socialization they require. Adolescent or adult cats may be adopted solo, if appropriate.

Adopters are asked to complete an application and spend time with their prospective companion animals. All adopters are carefully screened via vet and personal references, and a home visit is conducted. A donation in an amount agreeable to all parties is requested to help defray our expenses (medical, transport, training, pet supplies, etc). We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and are always in need of donations. That donation can be in the form of healthy treats, quality pet food, crates, blankets, new leashes and collars, toys, gift certificates to pet supply stores, kitty litter, etc. - all are gratefully accepted!

Please look at our list of adoptables, and if you don't find one that seems right for you, or if you see one that is already flagged as adopted, please contact us at info@zanisfurryfriends.org to let us know what you are looking for; perhaps we can help find the perfect match. We continually rescue new animals and will keep in mind specific requests from good homes.

Zani's Furry Friends is a volunteer organization which receives no funding or sponsorship. We depend on the generosity of those who are willing to donate time, supplies and money--and we are always in need of additional foster homes for either dogs or cats so that we may help free more animals from a dark fate at the shelter. Unfortunately our city's shelters face a continual space problem, and dozens of healthy, adoptable animals lose the race of time daily. If you are interested in opening your home and heart to foster one or more of our rescues, making a donation, or assisting with the myriad of details and chores that is involved in saving these precious lives, please contact us at info@zanisfurryfriends.org for more information. We look forward to working with you.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Zani's furry friends are mostly from the NYC shelter system. Our foster network is located in the NYC area and now also in Norwalk CT where they can be seen in their foster homes and some on Saturdays or Sundays at alternating locations.

Our dogs and cats are wonderful animals who can be placed with families w/ other pets. We foster most of our own adoptees and most are good w/ children and other dogs and cats.

Applicants are screened via an application which can be downloaded from http://zanisfurryfriends.org then returned to us via email. Generally, potential adopters must come and meet the dog/cat at the foster home. All our adoptable furry friends are fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered, microchipped and either feline combo tested or heartworm tested depending on whether the adoptee is a cat or a dog, respectively.

Our Adoption Process...

Contact must first be made either via email or telephone. Then there is a follow up of whichever means of contact were not used (we like to speak to the person as well as cyberspeak to her/him). There is an adoption application http://zanisfurryfriends.org which needs to be completed and emailed back to us from which references are carefully checked, including vet refs, a Home Visit requirement, an interview, and fees are in the form of a donation agreeable to all parties involved.
