HOFFY ~ He's approximately 8 year old, 13 1/2 pound, black dapple purebred dachshund. Taking his name from Hoffy brand hot dogs (he was a plump 19 pounder) AND former Padres closer (one of his foster mom's favorite Padres players), Trevor Hoffman, Hoffy is a very special dog who is lucky to have been rescued by DRLA.
Originally named Buddy, Hoffy came from the Bonita Shelter and into DRLA in July 2016 after his owner decided not to retrieve him. After dealing with a few days of what his foster was told was Kennel Cough, soon followed by him not eating and having severe breathing issues, Hoffy was diagnosed with an extremely serious case of pneumonia (less than 10% of his lung capacity). After 4 months of intense care, Hoffy has finally gotten 90+% of his lung capacity back and has nearly eliminated the infection that kept him sick for so long. NOTE: *This is a dog who was not expected to survive due to the severity of his pneumonia.
Although his inquisitive & stubborn doxie nature initially prevails, Hoffy walks well on a leash. He has some vision issues in one eye, but it doesn't prevent him from enjoying walks and sniffing out good smells. He LOVES food and is quite proficient at finding anything smelling of it...probably the reason he was found weighing 19 lbs. Has some bladder control issues (most likely from being overweight), but is good about using potty pads if he isn't taken outside immediately. If you're looking for a laid back dog who just wants to snuggle with his person, Hoffy is your answer.
If you are interested in meeting or adopting him please complete an adoption application and schedule your home safety check so you are pre-approved.
