Sable came to us on a transport from New Mexico. When she arrived, I initially thought she was in heat, however, within a day or two is was very obvious to me that this pup was growing a very special surprise for us in her belly. A vet check later and it was confirmed that we were having puppies! Luckily we did have almost a month to prepare for the upcoming arrival. On the early morning of October 11, 2016 Sable went into labor, and brilliantly gave us 6 beautiful babies!

From the day we picked up Sable she has been the sweetest most loving girl. Sable has a great personality and greets you with excitement and a very cheesy grin! Yes, I did say a GRIN! This dog does smiles up a storm when she is happy and excited! Don’t let it fool you for a second, just talk silly and excited to her and she will show you! Her house manners are coming along though she can be pretty excited, she is house broke and crate trained as well. She stays in a crate any time we are not home, so unsupervised house time is unknown on her reaction. Sable is very young and has done wonderful with all of our dogs (which consist of large, med and small) and has shown no interest in our 2 cats either. Sable will need an active lifestyle with guidance as she is very young. If you are interested in adopting a CAWS pet, please fill out an online application at

About Community Animal Welfare Society

About Our Rescue Group...

Founded in 1992 the Community Animal Welfare Society ( CAWS) is one of the oldest no-kill animal rescues in Utah. Over the last 20 years CAWS, our fosters and supporters have saved thousands of lives including over 600 last this year. As the largest foster home network in the state of Utah we focus on high risk pets in need of additional care and rehabilitation

Come Meet Our Pets...

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.

Our Adoption Process...

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at, email or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.
