Sophie is a 3 year old (on December 9th) St. Bernard/Husky/Boxer mix. She is around 70lbs but most of that is couch potato!
Sophie walks extremely well on a leash and has done some walking without a leash at all. She does wonderful. She is a great runner and has done several 5Ks (at the end you kind of have to give her a pep talk so she finishes strong). She loves to ride in the car too, and mostly stays in her back seat!
She absolutely loves soccer balls and will carry one around the yard until she is tired. She is excellent at fetch (until she gets tired). While she has good healthy spurts of energy she is quite the couch potato when she has spent some of that energy. She loves tug of war and squeaky toys and hardly ever tears them up preferring to snuggle with them. She loves chew bones and will chew them to small nubs that have to be taken away (she will leave them laying around and trust me, you do not want to step on that in the middle of the night).
We have done obedience classes with Sophie and she knows to Sit, Shake, Down, Stay and Leave it. She is 100% housetrained (only has had 2 accidents, and she was sick so those don’t count). She has excellent recall except when she has a squirrel up the tree. She does well meeting new people and does ok when meeting new dogs. Like I said she does great with small dogs but needs a slow introduction with larger dogs.
She is afraid of fireworks. She will try to hide in spaces that are much too small for her. If you are with her all she needs from you is for you to sit on the floor with her and let her put her head in your lap. She will probably fall asleep while you pet her head. She is never destructive when she gets scared, just wants to be close to her people.
Sophie does need to be an only dog as she gets jealous when her parents are giving away her well-earned attention. She is great with small dog friends that visit and with cats that aren’t overly affectionate to their people (as many cats are). She would do best in a home with older children that respect her space and that she can’t knock over.
