My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS SPECIAL-Adult cats just $10!

I thought is was normal, you know?

Wandering the neighborhood, living on the kindness of people, trying to keep near the nice people and stay away from the mean ones, watching for dogs, cars, raccoons, that sort of thing. Hiding under porches when it rained...

Well, I thought all that was a normal way to live.

And when the kittens came, it got about 10 times harder. Avoiding danger for me AND them, it was tough. But I did my very best.

There were nights though, sleeping in the dirt under a porch with my babies next to me, when I wondered if my best would be good enough.

Lucky for me, one of the nice people decided that I didn't have to struggle like that - they brought and my babies here! No more hiding and running and worrying that something would eat them before I could get back to my little ones! We were all safe and warm and dry. It was such a relief!

And now that my little ones are big and they are off to new lives of their own, I wondered what was to become of me? Back to the place where I came from? No? My card says that I'm "adoptable" now. That I can get a home.

A home.

I had to ask another cat about that. He said that a home is when someone takes you indoors (indoors! no rain or snow!) and they make you part of their family.

Family? Like... I could be... a baby person? He laughed and said that no, I wouldn't turn into a baby person, I would become a beloved cat! A cat with a name and a place and people who love her - family.

Family. It sounds like... like sunshine. The kind of bright sunshine that warms you right through to your insides! And now I lie awake at night on my soft blanket and think about what it will be like to have a family! I can't wait to see!

So if you know of anyone who could maybe use a very friendly young cat who is sweet and happy - super playful, but still learning how toys work (I never really had toys before!) - who is really, really excited about getting a family of her own, can you please send them my way? Tell them to ask for Daria - that's me!

Daria has been vaccinated, wormed, spayed/neutered and tested negative for FELV/FIV which is all included in the $65 adoption fee. If you would like to adopt this cat, you must come into the shelter for a meet and greet. We are open 12-4. (Closed Mondays & Wednesdays) All cats must leave the shelter in a carrier. If you do not bring one with you, one must be purchased at the shelter if available for $5.
