My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Thank you for your interest in one of our Hero Babies! Before inquiring, we thought it was important to share a few of our policies. We do require that all of your current dogs and cats are current on vaccines and spayed/neutered. We do not have a shelter, and are a foster-home based organization. Other than meeting our babies at events, we do require that you have an approved adoption application to schedule a meet and greet. You can fill out an adoption application on our website, www.herorescue.org, under the Be A Hero heading.

Zoey did not come to Hero from a shelter, and she was not a stray. Zoey’s story is much more complicated than that. Zoey had a family. It was her and her daddy, and they were to be best friends for life. I can just imagine the love and safety she felt when she was with him. Zoey scored the jackpot with that much love.

What Zoey didn’t realize is that her daddy was struggling, and one day he decided to end his struggle. Before he left this Earth, he wrote a note. In the note, he asked that his neighbor take Zoey into her family. He knew she was an animal lover, and would give Zoey a good life. What he didn’t know was that she would struggle in another way. Her dog was much smaller and getting older, and Zoey would not be a good fit. She tried to make it work the absolute best she could, but it became apparent it wasn’t a good living situation for anyone, human or canine. With much sorrow, she reached out for help.

Hero heard the story, and we were heartbroken for everyone involved. Yesterday, we welcomed Zoey to Hero. She will always have a place in her heart that misses her daddy, but we just know that we will find her a Hero Family that will give her the life her daddy intended her to have.
