It was a little hard to get Eddie’s attention when we first went into the play yard but the offer of a treat brought him to an immediate sit, and he took a tiny biscuit with a very gentle touch. We then offered a little scratch of his ribs and chest and he immediately rolled to the ground to get a complete belly scratch! While Eddie might sniff around the play yard at first, he does come when you ask him to and is happy to sit by you and get some hugs. Eddie is a great size – less than knee high and about 30 pounds. He’s also at a great age to go into a new home – well past puppy craziness but with plenty of energy to share with his new family. We don’t think Eddie has had much if any leash training but he is very easily guided on the leash and takes correction very well. Eddie came to us from a shelter in Barrow County so we don’t have much information on his history. We think he was around people but don’t know why or how he was separated from his family. But we believe that Eddie might be a hidden jewel of a dog! His easy manner, affectionate nature and just plain "Good Dog!" attitude will make someone a terrific companion! Come meet Eddie – we think he’ll grow on you just like he has on us!

About Atlanta Humane Society - Alpharetta

About Our Shelter...

Atlanta Humane Society (AHS) is a 501(c)3 tax exempt nonprofit (IRS Tax ID# 58-0685900) and the oldest private charitable organization in Atlanta, founded in 1873 following a visit to the city by Robert E. Lee. The animal charity was originally chartered to protect women, children, and animals and remained a child protection and animal welfare society for 79 years. AHS, now a widely recognized pet adoption center, clinic, and educational program provider, was originally located on Marietta Street and moved to its location at 981 Howell Mill Road in the 1930s. Atlanta Humane Society's Mansell Road Adoption Facility was opened in December of 2011 in Alpharetta.

It is our mission to prevent neglect, abuse, cruelty and exploitation of animals and to assure that their interests and well-being are fully, effectively and humanely protected by an aware and caring society.

Atlanta Humane Society places approximately 8,000 animals into forever homes each year. AHS is committed to finding homes for all adoptable pets. We do not euthanize adoptable animals, and there are no time limits for the animals once they are in our care. We only humanely euthanize those animals suffering from significant medical issues or that pose behavior concerns. We are proud to be a part of the solution to ending pet homelessness and overpopulation in the Southeast United States.
