Willie is a reserved, white, terrier who follows me EVERYWHERE, sleeps on the bed, and DUCKS whenever I try to pet him. He is right behind me on EVERY off-leash walk, but slows and avoids me when I turn to look at him. He is bonded with Sparks, but I think it is not a good relationship for Willie. I think Sparks stops Willie from developing trust in the people around him. Not that they have a reason the trust any of us. Sparks and Willie separately wandered into a yard a few years ago. The owners of the yard tried to find their owners, and could not. They kept the dogs and all was well until the owners died with in a few months of each other. Abandoned again, the dogs were left by the heirs in a ten by ten for 7 months. Neighbors came and took care of the dogs, took them on walks, for car rides, and to the vet. With winter approaching, we took them on. Willie and Scraps appear to be house-trained. Scraps chews things, like couches, but Willie does not. When I catch Willie, he loves pets and scratches.
If you are interested in one of our dogs, please go to our website, www.orphandog.org. Many questions will be answered there. All Orphan Dogs are fostered in private homes by volunteers who graciously take time from work and home life to care for our orphans. We do not have a facility, and most dogs are transported to our scheduled Adoption Events!
Our van is limited on space and because of this sometimes dogs will get time off if the van is overfull. Other arrangements may be made for meeting a dog the dog if circumstances prevent you from being able to make it to events. Remember again though that volunteers foster dogs in their spare time so we encourage you to try to attend the events.
If you are local to Lake County, we do make arrangements to meet dogs here in town. However, please remember that most of our dogs have been in our shelters for weeks before we pull them. We take the dogs that have not been adopted yet. If you visit the shelter, you'll get the dog before I do! The fee there is far less as well.
