This sweet little dumpling is named Oscar.  He is a purebred Pekingese, who comes to MMR all the way from North Carolina.  A plea was sent out to rescues, and one of our volunteers spotted Oscar, and the rest, as they say, is history.  He is now safe in rescue and in his foster home.

Oscar is about 7 years old and is a super sweet boy.  He is new to our rescue, so we will be posting updates as we get to know him better.  He is a beautiful dog, with a stunning solid cream (almost white) coat.  He was a bit 'rough around the edges' when he was rescued, but after a few baths, and some TLC he is doing looking much better!!  We are all excited for his fur to grow a little more so he can visit a groomer and get a real hair cut!!!  Oscar has already visited the vet.  He is up to date on his vaccines, is neutered, and is heart worm negative.  He doesn't appear to have any health issues, except for a condition called 'dry eye'.  This is common in our 'bug eyed' canine friends and he will need to receive drops to help his tear production, and he will need them for the rest of his life.  The drops are prescription, and can be purchased through a vet. Typically sold in a 3-4 month supply, they cost about  $15.00-18.00 a month.

We believe that Oscar will do well in most any home, but will not be placed in a home with children under the age of 12 years.   He appears to be fine with children, but will do best with older ones who can respect his small size and give him the space he needs to settle into a new home. Pekes are a toy breed, and love to be with their person, but also need exercise appropriate for their size.  Oscar will require 1-2 walks a day for exercise and socialization, and will require more short potty breaks if his new home does not have a fenced yard.   Please consider this before you apply.  Working families or individuals will be required to have a professional dog walker in place before Oscar comes to his new home. Oscar loves canine companions and even cats.

Stay tuned for more updates and pictures of Oscar as we get to know him better.  He is an adorable dog with a great personality and we don't think he will be with us for very long.  If you are interested, please fill out an application and request him by name!!!!

You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster home for a dog in need! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please check out our information about fostering on our website:

MMR covers the vet care, food, and tools to get started. You supply the love. Fostering saves lives. Sometimes a foster home is the only thing standing between life and death.

About Mutts Matter Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

A Little History... Mutts Matter Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non profit, all volunteer based organization, with combined rescue experience of over 15 years. We work in conjunction with shelters and other organizations to help save animals on death row, the strays on the street, or ones in unsafe living conditions. We adopt in the DC, VA, and MD areas, with a few exception out of the tri-state area depending on the dog and situation. We are driven by love, compassion, and hope.

All of our rescues enter their new home spayed or neutered, up to date on all shots, and are micro-chipped. If we take a dog into our rescue, we do our very best to ensure that they are healthy before going to their new “furever”home. With enough hard work and dedication, we hope to be able to empty the shelters one day soon.

Our Adoption Process...

We require you to fill out an adoption application on our website at www.muttsmatterrescue.com
The application will ask for both a vet and personal reference. Both will need to be verified. After those are checked, a pre-screener contacts you to discuss your application.
Once that is complete, they screener decides if they are recommended for a home visit. If the home visit goes well and they are approved to adopt, then they can meet the dog.
Our adoption fee includes the cost of routine vetting, spay/neuter, and microchipping.
