My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you missed Yasmine’s television debut on Philadelphia’s local 6ABC’s “Shelter Me” segment, here’s your chance to meet and adopt the most amazing Jack Russell mix! This super sweet girl came under MAJR’s care at only a year old with a number of medical issues. Most notably were signs of ataxia (a sensory dysfunction that causes a loss of coordination in the limbs, in Yas’s case) and severe luxating patellas (patellas, or kneecaps, dislocate or move out of their normal location) in both hind legs. Despite what had to have been terrible pain, Yasmine’s disposition has always been kind, gentle and happy-go-lucky. After a number of vet visits, it was determined that her ataxia is congenital, most probably caused by a virus her mother contracted while pregnant. She has adapted extremely well, and her “wind milling” type gait in her front legs is a quirky little walk that only adds to her endearing personality. She’s a little clumsy and prone to fall especially when she starts running too fast, so a watchful eye is needed. She absolutely loves to play and enjoys stealing toys from her three Jack Russell housemates. Yas wouldn’t be well suited around undisciplined, large or rambunctious playmates, but she relishes companionship.

Yasmine also underwent successful surgery on both hind legs to correct her luxating patellas. She received a number of C-laser treatments, extensive physical therapy and water therapy as part of her rehabilitation. While she may not be a candidate for a marathon or long hikes through the mountains, she loves going outside for walks. Not only does she benefit from the exercise, but she looks forward to meeting and greeting both kids and other dogs in the neighborhood. She’s reluctant to go up or down steps and jumping on or off furniture is a definite “no-no”. And as cute as she is, she should sleep in a dog bed or crate on the floor at night. She happily does so now and puts herself to bed quietly when she’s tired.

Yasmine is spayed, up to date on all of her shots, micro-chipped, fully housebroken, crate trained, and just a huge bundle of love. She’s not a barker, but has this funny squeal when she’s playing that has to be heard to be appreciated! She loves kids, gets along great with other dogs, enjoys trying to play with cats, and will shower anyone she meets with kisses. If you’d like to give Yasmine her forever home, please contact Mid-Atlantic Jack Rescue at www.MAJR.org.
