My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Moose is a 2 year old 85 lb male Rottweiler / Mastiff Mix. For such a large dog he's is the most gentle thing you'll ever meet. Moose was a stray from Indiana so we do not know a lot about his history. On December 3rd Moose was placed on a transport from Southern Indiana and headed to Illinois, which is when we began fostering him. What we can tell you after a couple of days is that Moose is a great looking dog who is a very loyal, lovable dog and has a big heart. He just loves being around people and close to where you are. He always appears happy and is quickly adjusting to his new life.
His first couple of days were about as good as could be expected. Moose is learning the routine where first thing in the morning we get up, go outside and go to the bathroom, then come inside and eat breakfast. We are teaching him some manners and have him sit before we feed him. Moose would do great in a home with another dog or would be fine by himself. We have a 65 lb German Shepherd mix of our own and the two dogs get along wonderfully. Moose will occasionally play with a nylabone or ball but isn't overly interested in toys at this point in time. He has shown no aggression with food or treats. We feed both dogs together and they share a water bowl and we've had no problems to date. We've taken Moose on a walk and he did excellent, exploring the new smells in the neighborhood.
Moose is crate trained and currently goes in there if we leave the house. He's been ok going in there with a little coaxing of a treat. He will bark for a couple of minutes in there at night but then settles down and is quiet the rest of the night. I think he just needs to adjust to his new routine. Moose appears to be potty trained and has not had an accident in the house. As with all new dogs we keep an eye on him and make sure he is let outside and gets into that routine we are looking for. As can be common with male dogs Moose has tried to mark his territory in the house a couple of times. The last two days however he hasn't lifted his leg and tried. Hopefully with him being recently neutered that helps this behavior go away. Basically all Moose wants is to be loved, played with, and given some attention. Moose has started settling in and is enjoying laying in his dog bed.
I would say Moose has a low to medium level of energy and would do great in just about any type of home. If you want him to play in short spurts he can but the nice part is he can relax nicely and be very calm. I certainly see him being able to go for a walk around the block with you. Moose enjoys the outdoors and roaming around our fenced in backyard. It would do Moose some good to have someone that is willing to take him on daily walks to keep him in shape and get him some exercise. This handsome guy deserves a forever home and would make a great addition to your family. Moose is up to date on all his vaccinations, has been neutered and micro-chipped.
