Meet Peppa, a super sweet 4 month old hound puppy who was found with her 3 siblings in southern Indiana. A foster home with Rover Rescue had an opening so Peppa joined the transport up north to find her forever family. When Peppa arrived to her foster family, both she and her sister were as nervous as nervous can be! They shook with fright and everything was new to them. Not to mention, they arrived to their foster home during the heavy snowstorm on December 4th. Between snow flurries, kids & dogs everywhere, inside noises, neither puppy seemed to know what was going on around them. Peppa's sister was adopted the next day and this gave Peppa's foster family a chance to evaluate her without her bigger sister around her.
Peppa arrived with no name and after seeing her gobble up her first meal in her foster home, the toddler in the home declared the new puppy's name Peppa Pig. Peppa has slowed her eating and has quickly adjusted to being a house dog. It was quite clear to her foster family that she had never been in a home so despite being 14 weeks old, she was closer in age to a dog who was 8 weeks old. Patience and consistency can go a long way with puppies and babies, and it is already paying off with Peppa! Within a day, she learned how to go up and down a few stairs. She is still slightly nervous of the "squeak" from the door but she will go in and out of the door now. With her missing tail, it is possible she lost it to a door since it does look like it was removed for one reason or another. Peppa is not shaking with anxiety anymore; instead, she is trusting her humans to navigate her through her environment.
Peppa has been around a wide variety of dogs from old, frail seniors to other playful puppies and she is very submissive with all of them. She desperately wants to play and will play bow with each new dog she meets hoping for a friend to romp with in the backyard. For those dogs who do not want to play, Peppa has been a dear about leaving them alone. Peppa lives with 5 children and is an absolute doll with them. She loves to have them stroke her long hound ears and she is great about listening to books being read. She is a puppy and unsure of what to chew so the children have learned to keep the house clean and only puppy toys available for her. Peppa is the runt of her litter and will probably end up being around 50 lbs. At 4 months, she is already well over 25 lbs. and growing!!
With Peppa having no previous house experience, her foster mom has begun potty training her by taking her out every 2-3 hours. Peppa takes a small nap in her crate in the morning for about 1/2 hour and another nap from 1-3pm. She sleeps all night in her crate with no problems and it is clean in the morning. Peppa has been spayed and is up to date on her vaccinations including bordetella and rabies. She is on a monthly preventative for heartworm and fleas. Her adoption fee is $225.
