My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Zuki is absolutely a sweetheart! She is well-behaved, eager to please, friendly and adorable! Our organization was asked to take in this senior beagle girl because her family no longer wanted her. We are always surprised and saddened when we hear about a surrendered beagle who had been with a family since puppihood, wondering what kind of medical or behavioral issues might be involved. As soon as we met Zuki, we realized that there were no issues with this darling dog! She is spayed, fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, and already microchipped! She is a few lbs. overweight at 29, and is eating a low-cal dogfood at her foster home. Her height is 15" and she is a classic tri-color.

This beautiful girl is a "young" senior, with a birth date of September, 2008. However, if we had not been directly given her age, no one would have guessed that she is an 8-yr-old. She is healthy, lively, shiny-coated and energetic.

It did not take Zuki long to get over the sadness of being abandoned by her family. After mourning for a few days, she found some dog toys at her foster home and proceeded to run up and down the hall with them, happily squeaking and tossing them. The doggie door is a fun attraction which she learned quickly. She was already crate-trained. She LOVES to go on leash walks, and leaps around happily when the leashes come out! She does need a bit of work on her leash manners because she is so very thrilled to be out on a walk, but she is quickly learning to settle into the pace of the walking group. Her most favorite thing, which was obviously new to her, is to go on a ride in the car with the foster family and her new beagle friend. She knows that the laundry room leads to the garage, and that the garage leads to the van, so she is ever watchful if anyone heads in that direction! She also likes to be sure to keep an eye on her new human friends.

Zuki is a very quiet dog and has not barked at all in her foster home, which is good because it is a townhome with shared walls. She does LOVE the doggie door and that is one thing that we would really like for her to have in her adoptive home, so that she can go out and investigate the yard whenever she feels the urge. Her foster home does not have children or cats or large dogs, so we do not know how she would do with any of those situations. She is fine with the resident beagle, and usually goes where ever her buddy goes, but they do not play together. Mostly, they are either out investigating the yard or inside curled up on separate dog beds, that is, until a leash comes out!!! Zuki would likely be ok with or without a dog friend, as long as she has human friends who are not away from home all day long.
