My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello out there! My name is Maki and I am a female Congo African Grey. My exact age isn't known but I am most likely around 25 years or older. My mate, Mo, is around the same age. We were a breeding pair for many years, out in California, until I got egg bound. Now, no more eggs for me but I am happy to have survived the ordeal! Mo and I don't share a cage anymore, but I still talk to him all day long. I say ‘Hi Mo’, ‘You ok?’, ‘What’s wrong?’ I also whistle pretty good. I lost my eye a few years ago, so I became a little more accepting of a hand up, but it’s not easy for me to step up. My depth perception is off, so sometimes I pinch or test with my beak before I step.

Mo tells me all the time that we talk in the secret language of birds. Then he makes these really loud whistles! Mo also loves to imitate anything that beeps! Mo loves me and goes wherever I do, except on people's hands. He doesn't really trust people right now and will bite or run away if he can. Our foster mom says that will probably change in time.''

Both of us were checked by the vet. We are both in good health, except the vet had the nerve to call me overweight! I don't know? Does my butt look big to you?

We both eat Harrison's and Feed Your Flock pellets. Mo likes chop, apples, and almonds. Me...eh..I would rather have nutriberries or big chunks of veggies so I can toss out what I don't like. It's really hard to toss chop.

Our foster mom knows how much Mo loves almonds and is trying to get him to touch her little stick for a piece of almond. Sometimes he gives in and does what she wants. Sometimes, he grabs her finger and lets her know he doesn't want to be touched!!!

Although Mo and I are in separate cages, we get very anxious if we are not near each other and our cages must be kept close together. We *are* a bonded pair, at the moment, and we must also be adopted together.

Is there anyone out there willing give a pair of African Greys that still need some social skills a forever home? There is no doubt that it will take a lot of time, a lot of patience and a lot of love, to win us over, but it will be so worth the effort!!!!! A pair like us is not for the novice bird owner so please have previous African Grey or large bird handling experience.

Since Mo and I are in separate cages, we can't share our stuff anymore and we would be grateful if you could see your way clear to buy us anything from our Amazon wishlist. Here is the link:
