We welcome specific questions. Due to high volume of applications, we may not be able to respond immediately. Your patience is appreciated.
If an animal is on our website, it is still available but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, it is in your best interest to submit an application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process.
We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application.
As an all-volunteer, foster home based organization, ARF does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we must give priority to pre-approved applicants.
Female, spayed, about 3 years old (as of November 2016), microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, currently in a foster home, will be making appearances at ARF Adoption Events (see http://www.arf-il.org/events.html or https://www.facebook.com/A.R.F.Illinois/?fref=ts for times and locations), adoption fee $110.
Honey West was abandoned outside the doors of Chicago’s High Kill Shelter in September, and rescued by ARF just prior to being euthanized. She is a timid little girl, and was so terrified of everything at first, that she stood in the corner facing the wall and would not look around. Working with her has resulted in a gradual relaxing, although she is still shy. She is comfortable enough to jump up on the desk while her person is working, and she talks! She makes little honking noises, and will answer every time she is spoken to. Honey loves her wet food and is a good eater. She has gained over a pound since rescued. Not knowing her background, it’s hard to speculate what her life was like. But she doesn’t understand playing and is puzzled by toys. She co-exists with a cat friendly dog, as well as other foster cats, but steers clear of all of them. She would probably do best as the only pet in the house, with a doting owner she can jump on and get scratches from.
If you are interested in meeting Honey West, you can fill out an online adoption application at http://www.arf-il.org/application.html Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting with the cat. Filling out the application does not obligate you in any way.
If you’re invited to meet an animal, plan to arrive on time or early,
as we cannot hold animals.
All household members must be present at time of adoption, including dogs.
We appreciate your cooperation.

You'll receive a copy, too, at to help you keep track of which pets you've inquired about, and which shelters and rescues you've emailed.
NOTE: Some shelters have physical locations you can visit; some of these shelters may only have pets for a limited time, so please do not wait for a reply—just go visit the shelter! Other organizations are rescue groups run by busy volunteers who may take a while to reply.
