My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DOB November 13, 2011.

Qi is a sleek panther, the smoothness of his shiny black coat interrupted only by a few white hairs on his chest; that’s how you can tell him apart from his brother Magic. Another way to tell these two lovelies apart is Qi’s shyness. Qi’s a bit wary of new people, although not afraid of them. He just likes to keep his distance and assess the situation before he jumps right in for butt skritches, his preferred form of love. But once he gets to know his new human friend, he is full of love and powerful purring. Scratch his ears in just the right way, and he will flop over and invite you to continue that scratching on his soft belly.

His panther-ness isn’t just in his sleek physique; Qi loves to chase after his toys, racing from one side of the house to the other in search of the elusive toy mouse or tinfoil ball, his favourite prey. He loves to play with dangly, feathery things with his human companion too, although he will not object to a bit of string dragged across the floor in front of him. Qi also enjoys some catnip from time to time, a good skritch behind the ears, and running water. He’s not the greatest at actually accessing running water, and he ends up contorting his body in all kinds of ways to get his mouth closer to the stream, so he inadvertently entertains his human companion in his quest to drink the freshest water.

Qi’s former owner adopted Qi and his brother Magic as kittens. She adored them and was heartbroken at the circumstances in her life that forced her to give them up. All the upheavals of the past year have taken their toll on Qi, and he’s been finding it hard to consistently use the litterbox properly. Like a lot of cats with anxiety, Qi sometimes pees outside the box. But he’s been working hard with his current human companion to get over this anxiety and make sure he always uses his litterbox.

He’s on the shy side, so he might benefit from a quieter home, but one with plenty of love to give him to assuage his anxieties. Like his brother Magic, he hasn’t spent that much time with children, but would probably do well with older children. And since he’s spent his whole life with his brother, he would probably do well in a home with another cat to be his friend. At the end of the day, he just wants to be loved and reassured of that love.
