Facts about Louise

  • Breed: Shepherd (Unknown Type) Mix
  • Color: Tan/Yellow/Fawn
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
  • Sex: Female
Louise is a 3-4 year-old, spayed Shepherd mix who is fully house trained, crate trained, and has great manners. This 65-pound pup came to us having just delivered a litter of puppies and needing to be treated for heartworm & a gunshot injury to her leg. Louise completed treatment for heartworm last Summer and surgery to amputate her leg in the Fall. She adapted to being a tripawd pup quickly and does not let that slow her down one bit. As a matter of fact, now that she no longer had to deal with pain from her injury, she really enjoys taking nice, long walks!

Louise knows all the basic commands: sit, down & stay, and will patiently wait for her supper. She’s a very smart girl who would enjoy working with a trainer to learn more, especially if that entails a ride in the car. She also enjoys just relaxing outdoors and cuddling with loved ones.

This sweet girl prefers the company of calm male dogs, adults and older children but is not a fan of smaller/energetic dogs or younger children who tend to be a bit too excitable for her comfort. She’s a little too interested in cats and would not be recommended for a family that has one but she’d be a great companion for empty nesters, families with teens or a single person that will be as happy to see her when they come home as she is to see them.

About To Love a Canine Rescue, Inc

About Our Rescue Group...

To Love a Canine Rescue, Inc. (TLC) is a non-profit, all breed, foster based, no-kill rescue operating in Chester County, PA. Our mission is to rescue, offer sanctuary, and find permanent homes for abandoned, stray, and surrendered dogs in order to minimize the needless euthanizing of animals.

TLC was born in the spring of 2013 when our eight founding members decided they wanted to combine their collective experience in pet rescue and community service into one organization. We have a mutual passion, and a unified vision, for saving dogs as well as a thirst to educate the community on reducing the number of dogs needing rescue. The heart wrenching cases we are consistently presented with motivates us to work vigorously to save as many dogs as possible.

Our dogs come to us from the south, from local shelters, and from owner surrenders. Each dog has its own tragic story and, as a volunteer based rescue, we have dedicated ourselves to giving our dogs the love and permanent homes they deserve.

TLC works tirelessly to find safe, nurturing, forever homes to dogs in need. Due to lack of spaying and neutering in many areas, amazing dogs end up in shelters. These dogs are quickly issued a date to be euthanized and, in many cases, it is performed inhumanely by agonizing mass gassing or painful heart sticks. Many of our canine friends come from death row, not because something is wrong with them, but because they have simply run out of time and space at the shelter.

At TLC, bonding with our rescues is very important. Rather than going to a shelter where they often become depressed and withdrawn, our dogs join us in our warm, comfortable homes where they thrive with attention and love. As soon as dogs arrive in our foster homes, we begin housetraining when necessary, and work on basic manners. Our dedicated foster families socialize and interact with the dogs to learn their strengths and understand their challenges. It is important to evaluate personality and temperament of our dogs to better facilitate placement in homes in which their needs and the family’s lifestyle and experience are in alignment. Our dogs receive an enormous amount of love and the medical attention necessary to ensure good health.

TLC dogs are all spayed or neutered, and brought up to date on shots appropriate for their age. They are also micro chipped prior to being placed in their new homes.
It is our goal to connect devoted families to loving dogs in need of their everlasting home. We believe in being very honest with our potential adopters and we present everything we learn about our rescues in order to make sure we have a successful adoption. Additionally, TLC foster families and associated trainers will work with adoptive families to ensure a smooth transition and help facilitate additional support and training that may be needed to create and maintain a stable and happy home for our dogs. From puppies to seniors, there is a perfect dog out there for everyone. We pride ourselves on making the right connection between dog and family in order to give our dogs their final, joyful, loving home. Ultimately, our wish would be for empty shelters so no dog is left behind.

TLC is an IRS tax-exempt 501(c)(3) public charitable organization. All donations made to TLC are fully tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Our Adoption Process...

We do our best to keep the adoption process straight-forward and simple in an effort to get our available pets into a permanent, stable and loving home in a timely manner. You will be asked to fill out an adoption application giving To Love a Canine Rescue, Inc. information about yourself, your family, your home and your experience with pets. You will need to provide a vet reference and multiple personal references. Our goal is to find our animals the best possible home and, if multiple applications are received, To Love a Canine Rescue, Inc. will make the decision as to which home would be best for that particular pet.

**We DO require that ALL dogs and cats in your household are spayed or neutered, kept up-to-date on vaccines and that they are seen annually for a check-up.

**We do NOT require a fenced in yard unless otherwise noted for a specific pet.

**We do NOT have restrictions regarding children in an adoptive household unless otherwise noted for a specific pet.

**We do NOT SHIP animals. If you are interested in adopting one of our pets and live outside of our area, you will be required to come meet and adopt the animal in person if your application is approved.

**We do NOT hold animals.

Our adoption fee for dogs is $375 for spayed/neutered dogs over 6 months of age and $450 for in-tact puppies under 6 months old - that includes a wellness exam, all age appropriate vaccines, spay/neuter surgery, heartworm testing when age appropriate, heartworm treatment if necessary, worming, microchip and registration, flea/tick treatment, 30 days of free pet insurance and phone/email support from our dog trainers and discounted rates on any training scheduled with our dog trainer. PLEASE NOTE: If the adopter does not use a TLC vet to spay/neuter an intact puppy adopted from us, we will refund $100 of the adoption fee provided we receive a spay/neuter certificate from the adopter's vet. Additionally, we do offer discounted adoption fees to families adopting more than one dog, senior dogs and dogs with special needs when possible.
