My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nico is approximately 6 months old and is a Plott Hound/German Shepard mix (his brother looks just like a Shepard). Nico is a super sweet and laid back dog. He loves to sleep on the couch on his back. He is still a puppy so he mouths quite a bit. First thing in the morning or after being in his crate for a longer period of time makes his mouthing worse and he does not realize how hard he is doing it. During the day when he does mouth, it doesn’t hurt and his 6 yr. old 2 legged foster brother thinks it tickles and giggles super hard. He gets along great with all of the dogs he has come in contact with and does think cats are fun to chase. One of his foster kittens likes to play with him. He is still working on basic obedience and leash training. He is crate trained with treats and no accidents, he is fed in his crate because others in the house has food aggression. He has not exhibited aggression at all. He is mostly house trained… someone does occasionally have an accident but we are not sure if it is him or his sister. He most likely will not get a whole lot bigger. He is still a puppy and jumps up on you. For this reason, people with young children should understand that they will get knocked down when Nico is trying to love on them and this will need to be worked on. He and his 6 yr. old 2 legged foster brother love to play, chase each other, and his foster brother loves to lay on the floor while Nico gives endless kisses. This is a super cool and sweet dog!

His ideal family… Really, any family. He can be super laid back or very active. He seems to just go with the flow. It is STRONGLY recommended that his furever home has a 6 foot fence, he is leash walked, or someone is outside with him supervising 100% of the time as he can jump over a 4 foot chain-link fence.

There is no obligation to adopt by completing an application, however, we do recommend submitting an application as soon as you find an animal you are interested in. We review applications in the order they are received.

Completed applications can be sent via email to adopt@jcapl.org, faxed to 919-300-5524, or delivered in person by visiting us at one of our adoption events on Saturdays at PetSmart in Garner (White Oak Shopping Center).

We will contact you as soon as possible once we receive your application for Nico.

Thanks for thinking adoption!
