Riley showed up one day at a lady's house along with his brother. She fed them but didn't really want cats hanging around so she contacted Causeforpaws. They were placed in a foster home but unfortunately, the foster parent didn't work with them or try to socialize them. Then one day she decided she didn't want to foster anymore and told our sister chapter in VA to come and get the cats, now! The group contacted me to see if I could help as Riley and his brother were deemed feral and not adoptable. They had no where to place them, and if they couldn't find somewhere, they would be forced to euthanize them. Since we don't believe in euthanasia except for in matters of severe medical issues, I agreed to take the boys. Unfortunately, Riley's brother became seriously and quickly I'll and passed away before the vet could figure out what was wrong. As it turns out, Riley is not feral at all! He loves attention, he doesn't like being picked up, but you can pet him all day long. He is a very interactive and curious cat. In the picture you can see a lump on Riley's neck. He has a salvia duct that has collapsed. It fills with saliva, you can have it drained, but it fills up again quickly. He is not in pain and it doesn't affect him at all. Only a specialist can do the surgery to remove the duct, but I'm sure that would be expensive. Our vet here says he's fine as he is. Riley is approximately 3 years old, neutered and utd on vaccines.

About Cause for Paws

About Our Rescue Group...

I started with Cause4paws located in Virginia in 2010, at first I was just a foster parent and was not much more involved than that. In 2013 I moved to P.A. to be nearer to my dad. I made an appointment with the vet and asked what rescue groups were in the area, she said, "pardon?" I repeated, rescue groups, I want to foster for a rescue group. She stated that there was the local shelter, and I said no, rescue groups, and she said to the best of her knowledge, there weren't any. Because I was still working with the group in V.A I did not volunteer for the shelter, I would make trips down to V.A and take adoptable cats and kittens down there to be placed for adoption through the local Petsmart stores. It soon became apparent that this area has an overwhelming number of homeless cats and kittens, and I was doing my best and spending all of my own money when I realized, I could no longer do this by myself. I needed the help of the community. So we got Cause4paws registered in the state of P.A as a non profit charitable organization and began the process of seeking donations and supplies. It was worked out much better than I initially anticipated, but due to the huge number of stray cats and kittens out there we still have a long way to go.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We hold regular adoption events in Fredericksburg V.A at the Petsmart located in Central Park shopping center. Cats located in Pennsylvania can be viewed by appointment only.

Our Adoption Process...

We do have an application that needs to be filled out. References from vets and friends/family will be required. All members of the household must sign off on the application to show that they understand that a pet is being brought into the home. If you live in a rental home, apartment or trailer park, you will be required to have a signed document from the owners stating it is ok for you to have a pet. Adoption fees are $125.00 per cat or kitten that is already spayed and neutered and vaccinated. This helps us cover the cost of the surgery and vaccinations that have already been provided to the cat or kitten. If you live locally, a home visit will be required prior to adoption approval.
