My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chip is a beautiful two year old chocolate neutered male. He came to DLRR from our rescue partners in New Mexico. When we got him, he was a little stressed from his ordeal which included county animal control intervention to remove Chip and his two kennel mates due to gross neglect. Chip and his buddies were kept in the pound for some time and his voyage ended with a twelve hour ride from two rescue transport groups. It took a couple of days for Chip to realize he was safe and comfortable. When he came to us he didn't understand toys or inside living very well. He was very nervous about where and what he could do. He stayed by himself, slept in corners or under the furniture. He was helped by a persistent puppy who would not let him hide or sulk. By day three he was playing with his foster brother and wagging his tail when neighbors came to see him. Now he is a very happy two year old. He has a good appetite, he is learning to walk on a leash, which seemed to be a new experience. He loves to run and play with his foster brother. So far he has not met a cat, but has met several dogs on walks and visits in the neighborhood. Chip came in weighing a bit under 50 pounds and needed to gain a few pounds. He is looking healthier and his coat is now quite gorgeous. He came with a few issues: he needed to be neutered and he had been covered with ticks and fleas when he was first rescued. Those issues have been resolved, but Chip either has or has had a type of tick fever. To be safe, the vet prescribed Chip to be on a 30 day regimen of antibiotics. He has completed all the other post surgery meds. Chip knows few verbal commands and needs training. He generally responds to being called, knows where to eat and is house trained. He has become a regular snuggle bug, loves his belly rubs and freely gives kisses.
