My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Duke is an awesome eight-year old little golden mix. He's around 50 pounds and looks like a golden fox, complete with a tip on white of his tail. He loves to cuddle on the couch, enjoys belly rubs, and long walks in the neighborhood. He's fairly good on a leash, except when he smells something interesting. He looks forward to his daily walks and might even start barking because he gets so excited! He curls up into a little tiny ball when he's sleeping, which is nice especially if you're sharing the couch.

Duke loves his people, all people, and much prefers that to the company of dogs. It's not that he doesn't like dogs, he's just fairly uninterested in them, at least in the beginning thus far. It's just that he really wants to be with his person. He follows his foster mom around the house and likes to assist with anything, especially in the kitchen. This dog has a nose on him! He takes treats gently, including veggies, and shares with the others.

He is a champion at "sit," but still learning other commands like "wait" and "stay." He rides well in the car and is very well behaved in the house. He can be left out alone with no issues and he's perfect with housetraining. He sleeps through the night and lets you know when he has to go out. Duke loves looking out the window watching the world go by.

Duke was recently diagnosed with spondylosis and takes two inexpensive medications to alleviate the pain. This is a condition that affects aging dogs, especially retrievers. Honestly, you can't even tell that he has an issue. He loves his daily walks, has been known to play with other dogs, jumps on the couch, and he might have been caught counter surfing in his foster home. Duke is a gentlemen and appreciates any attention that you have to give. If you're looking for a loyal and dedicated best friend, one on the small size and easier to manage, then Duke is your guy!
