My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Scrimshaw is an adorable two to three-year-old, five-pound, male Chihuahua looking for a loving guardian.

Sadly, Scrimshaw was found as an emaciated stray on the south side of Chicago. He had no collar, no tags and he looked absolutely skeletal.

He waited at the shelter for his person to claim him, but his negligent owner never showed up; so he came home with me. I picked him up; he gave me kisses and off we went! He does have a feisty side, so he’s probably best in a home without children, and with a true Chihuahua-lover who will look past Scrimshaw’s bravado.

He has been fabulous, silly and playful with all the dogs – big and small – that he’s met so far. He is respectful of cats and doesn’t chase or bark at them at all. Due to how skinny he was, and slight case of kennel cough, I didn’t have the heart to take him outside in the cold, so I’ve been training him with pee pads. He’s a quick learner!

Scrimshaw has been eating well, and lounging in a big fluffy dog bed for the last week and is feeling so much better! He is vaccinated, micro-chipped, heartworm and fecal-tested negative. The vet gave him a clean bill of health so he will be neutered upon adoption. His adoption fee of $200 benefits the Friends of Petraits rescue group.

To meet and possibly adopt Scrimshaw, please contact petraits@interaccess.com for an adoption application and follow up by calling Sheri at 773-777-2891. He is being fostered in Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood.
