Gator's Story...
Everyone knows that one person who ends their conversations with the classic "see you later Gator" phrase. Come on, you know you do. And you know everyone has a little giggle and thinks it's pretty corny. Well, no more. The person that adopts Gator and gets to say "see you later Gator" each and every morning just became the cool kid. Add the fact that Gator is awesome all around...look who is laughing now. At 2 years old, Gator is a long-legged guy with a big ol' tail that earned him his name. That tail can clear a table with one swift wag. Yes, he is already a big, tall galumph of a Boxer at 70lbs. but he has at least 5-10 more lbs. to go so get ready for a big boy! Our canine crocodilian loves the outside, snow and all, and is happy diving right into a snow drift. He is also content to carry his toys around, showing them off to whoever is watching. No tug of war needed! He is flips his toy up into the air, catches it and then prances around while you ooh and ahhh over his prized possession. Gator is incredibly smart and knows his commands, including sit, stay, down and paw and he is also well trained in the art of snuggling and would love a forever family that would like a 70+ lb. lap dog. Even if he's not entirely on your lap, you can expect his head resting on you whenever possible. Gator is working on his leash skills and learning not to jump up to greet people. Plus he is still perfecting his crate training as he can be a bit of a barker when confined. Since his previous family crated him for 20+ hours each day before finally dumping him at a high-kill shelter, we are working on reinforcing that he won't ever be left alone for so long ever again. With all he has been through Gator does need to be crated when alone, as he has a bit of separation anxiety. As a result, we are looking for a family that is fully on board for crate training. This smarty pants has made great progress and is quickly learning that the crate isn't such a bad place! Gator has also done well with most dogs he has met and he would thrive with a tolerant, submissive dog or as the only dog in the home. Mr. Gator greets everyone with a wiggle, a big ol' jowly Boxer smile, and non-stop tail wagging. Because of his exuberance and the fact that he is a strong boy who is still working on keeping his strength in check, we are looking for a home with older kiddos only! Gator is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and microchipped. If you are interested in applying for this incredible boy, please fill out an application at See ya later Gator...

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Gator, a Wethersfield Boxer dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Boxer for sale in Wethersfield, or seeking a Boxer dog from a breeder in Wethersfield.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Wethersfield already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Wethersfield breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Boxer breeders who help with Boxer rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Wethersfield paves the way for another one to be saved.
