York's Story...
When we arrived at the animal control facility to evaluate York for rescue, we found him lying in a small dark kennel with his back to the kennel door. He barely raised his head to look back at us when we called to him. It was difficult to tell if he was just too weak or too depressed to do anything more than lift his head but what we could see in his eyes was that he deserved a chance. When we took York to our vet we found he was barely one year old and severely malnourished. What York then lacked in energy he is more than making up for now. He loves to run and play and is gaining weight daily under NASPR’s care. York needs a family that will teach him all the things a young dog should know. He will need a family committed to working with him and training him to be the perfect companion. We know their commitment will create an amazing bond between this pup and his very lucky forever family.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

York, a Houston Shar Pei dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shar Pei for sale in Houston, or seeking a Shar Pei dog from a breeder in Houston.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Houston already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Houston breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shar Pei breeders who help with Shar Pei rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Houston paves the way for another one to be saved.
