Hi Everyone...I'm Cassidy and I was transferred from It Takes A Village because they were out of space. So no one here knows anything about my background. But I've been on a couple of Canines for Cardio walks and I was very playful with the other dogs. I really like other dogs - both big and small. I walk well with a harness and I'm a very loving girl. I was adopted from the VHS in December 2016 but only remained in my home for a week. I had accidents inside and was easily frightened. I did well with the children in my home and did great on car rides. I need a special, patient loving person with the time to help me become a more confident girl. I also need regular exercise and play time with my person to become my happy and well adjusted self. And a nice dog friend in my new home will probably help me too. I also need a routine, scheduled meal times and lots of positive reinforcement to help me with potty training. Lots of positive reinforcement will help me become more confident, too. Just look at my pictures - I'm lovable but I need your help to become my best self. I hope you'll come in and get to know me better!
My adoption fee includes my spay/neuter, up to date immunizations, nationally recognized microchip and more.

About Vanderburgh Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

The Vanderburgh Humane Society, Inc. (VHS), a tax exempt, 501(c)(3) organization, was founded in 1957 to provide protection for homeless animals, intervention for animals in abusive environments, and community education to encourage prevention of animal abuse and pet overpopulation. The VHS receives no tax-based funding whatsoever. Therefore, it depends on the generosity of the corporate community and the public at large to continue, and hopefully expand, the much needed services it offers.

Located in Evansville, Indiana, the VHS serves as a surrender and adoption agency for unwanted pets. In addition to finding homes for animals, the VHS also works to build public awareness of the problem of homeless and abandoned pets. Through special events, media coverage and other outreach activities we hope to reduce the flow of animals to our shelter.

Our mission:
Leading our community to eliminate pet overpopulation through Spay/Neuter, Adoption, and Humane Education. Alter. Adopt. Adore.

We also offer a Safe Pets Program, which provides a safe haven to pets of local families who are victims of domestic violence, working with a local shelter, and have no place for their pets to go in a dangerous situation.

Our Pit Stop Program provides funding for any resident of Vanderburgh County to get their pit bull-type dog spayed or neutered at no cost. Only a $10 rabies shot is required if the pet is not current.

We provide bi-weekly Emergency Pet Food Assistance to local families having a rough time providing for their pets.

Our Pet-Assisted Therapy program brings volunteers to local nursing homes and assisted living centers with gentle-tempered dogs who are up for adoption.

Come Meet Our Pets...

While we hold and/or attend several events throughout the year that sometimes involve us bringing animals with us, we only do adoptions onsite at the shelter.

Please visit between the hours of 12:00 noon CST and 6:00 pm CST Tuesday through Saturday to adopt an animal, no appointment needed!
