My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Half of Smidgeon's adoption fee has been sponsored by a very generous donor to help her be in her forever home for the Holidays. Her adoption fee is now $150.00 to the lucky family who is able to adopt this very sweet, precious girl.

Meet Smidgeon, she is the newest addition to the Angels on Wheels family, and is looking for a home. We picked her up from Chicago Animal Care and Control on Tuesday, December 13, 2016. She is such a sweet dog around 2 yrs old and 45-50 pounds. She has never had an accident in her foster home. Her foster mom feels she is housetrained, but she will need to learn the rules in her new home with her new family. Breed, well that's just a guess, but we think possibly Lab/Border Collie mix. It's hard to tell her coat color in the photos, but she has a beautiful, soft blue/grey coat which is stunning with a slight undercoat. She loves everyone, and is a happy girl who is eager to please and give kisses. She has a very sweet, gentle nature that anyone will fall in love with. She is fabulous with other dogs (she submits to them), doesn't care about the kitties in her foster home, she loves men, women and is being fostered in a home in Oswego, IL with teen children who she is great with. She does really well in a crate, has no anxiety, no guarding issues, no food issues, and is such a fantastic dog. Her favorite thing to do is jump on the kitchen chair when her foster mom works, and she sits calmly watching. She is so excited to be in a home and out of Animal Control!

Smidgeon had a rough start to life, which clearly didn't effect her gentle, sweet nature. She was found gated into a corner of a dark basement surrounded by her own feces and urine, shaking when the police found her. She was then taking to Chicago AC where she has waited since early November, 2016 for someone to rescue her. Safe Humane Chicago stepped in to help her while at Animal Control. They did an evaluation on her personality and with other dogs, which she passed with flying colors. They worked with her on her leash manners when she first arrived because she didn't know what a leash and collar was. She is now doing fantastic with that. Safe Humane Chicago then helped Smidgeon to secure rescue so that she can be out of Animal Control and on to her next journey which is finding a family of her own. Now that she is rescued through Angels on Wheels Animal Rescue, her new years wish is that she have a family of her own who will appreciate and love her forever. This is Smidgeon's 2nd chance for a wonderful life, can you be part of that?

Although we think she would be fantastic with young children given her gentle nature, she has not been around young kids, and we are not sure how she would do with all of the noise and fast movements young children have so we feel a home with children 7+ would be best. We also feel she would be best adopted into a home with a full, physical fenced in backyard.

Smidgeon t is being fostered in a home in Oswego, IL, which is where you and your family would go to meet her. All family members, including 4-legged, must be present at the meet and greet to adopt. In order to schedule a meet and greet, please submit and adoption application which can be found on-line on our website at http://angelsonwheels.org/canine-adoption-application/ We must have an adoption application submitted and processed prior to making an arrangements for a meet and greet.

If you are seeing Smidgeon posted for adoption, she is still looking for a home so there is no need to email us asking if he's available. We update the site regularly. We need to have a submitted adoption application and processed prior to making an appointment since we do not have a facility or regular viewing hours.

Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but is required prior to making arrangements for a meet and greet as all of our animals are cared for in homes. We can't schedule meet and greets until the application is submitted and approved. We don't have a building so there are no viewing hours. All of our animals are cared for in foster homes by wonderful families who volunteer their time to save these precious souls. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

The adoption fee was $300.00, half of the fee is now sponsored and includes:
The spay which is now done
Microchip,
Given Revolution for flea and heartworm preventative
DHPP Vaccination
Bordetella Vaccination
Tested Negative for Heartworm

Tested Negative for the tick transmitted disease Ehrlichiosis

Smidgeon comes with a lifetime of behavioral support through Safe Humane Chicago. Information will be provided to the family who adopts this wonderful girl. Safe Human Chicago is dedicated to helping court case dogs who are e victims of neglect or abuse who have been rescued by police and animal control from their abusers and are associated with criminal court cases against their abusers. They are part of a program in which Safe Humane Chicago assesses them, engages volunteers and interns to socialize and train them to be irresistible family companions, transfers them to partner rescue groups, and provides them lifetime behavioral support.

You will also receive a free health exam visit to either Crest Hill Cat and Dog Clinic, Yorkville Animal Hospital, Woodridge Animal Hospital, Midwest Animal Hospital in Orland Park, Springbrook Animal Hospital, Naperville Animal Hospital, or Countryside Vet Clinic in Carol Stream.

Although we make the best guess on the breed and size of our dogs, because they come from shelters or are strays, we can never be completely certain of the genetic makeup of the dog. Breed and weight at maturity are only guesses. All we can tell you for sure is that they are 100% RESCUED! If an animal is still posted for adoption, he/she is still available. If you see this this post, this puppy is available for adoption so there is no need to email asking about availability.

Thank you for looking at our rescued animals!
