My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

It takes a little time to get to know Rocky, but once you do, you'll find him irresistible. He has an adorable face, big golden eyes, and a small, demure smile.

What is Rocky like once he feels safe in an environment? Well, for one, he loves being called “Princess Rocky.” And, this cutie pie loves having fun! He’s always up for a car ride, long walk, or game of fetch. He loves being outside with people, he loves being inside with people, he loves toys, he loves walks, he loves runs, he loves treats (and any other type of food), he loves other dogs – basically, he embodies the true canine spirit. Rocky thinks life is great so long as he’s by your side. He’s a dog who can find pleasure in the simple things.

Rocky is a gentle and well behaved dog who seems to be house trained. He understands basic obedience cues and once he’s comfortable he has the manners of a gentleman. And, Rocky’s great with other dogs. He is good at meeting them both on and off leash and he loves to rollick with them. Rocky seems to trust and be at ease around other dogs immediately – he is most at home in the company of other canines.

Unfortunately, Rocky is not nearly as comfortable around people. He is a sweet, kind-hearted, traumatized soul who is still learning that humans are safe and not scary. Rocky has become far more at ease around the staff he sees regularly, but he is still learning how to trust people fully. Rocky is hoping to find a patient person who sees what a special boy he is and wants to be part of his healing.

Rocky is a mixed breed dog who was probably born in 2011. He’s an extremely healthy dog, whose sweetness has won the affections of staff. The right atmosphere for Rocky is probably a quiet home, without little humans running about or frequent visitor traffic. This sensitive boy just wants someone special to make him feel safe. Could that person be you?

Rocky would do best in a home with children over the age of 10 and in a cat-free home.

****His adoption fee is $295.****

The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed.

All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws.

Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $25 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization.

The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.
